I knows its quiet on here without me bothering you all the time whilst my car is being completed for IVA

How are various builds coming along presently??

When's your Iva date Paul?? Have they got it ready. Do you pay them a set price wether or not it fails??? How's it work...

Coming along slowly just the same as everyone else. My biggest problem is working out what way I want to build the car. As it's a race car and I'm fitting an oil cooler - i need to decide the best route for oil lines, for the fire extinguisher - ditto, same for the bespoke wiring loom etc. etc. It's totally different to just refitting what's come of the car - i'm sure most of the replica builders are having the same probs.

More hours spent scrathing my head, drinking coffee and having a smoke that actually putting the car back together!

No date received yet but its been applied for.

So far the seats and interior are fitted. They had to make up some supprts under the floor due to the dip in the pan.

Also needed a drum as brakes were unbalanced - my fault as I forgot to do that!

They quoted a price on the back of a list of things I wanted them to do which included IVA. After some negotiation it came down a lot! they were quoting 7 hours to fit 2 seats (!), 3 hours to put 2 lights on dash ...bit OTT!!! they should be able to knock this sort of stuff out quite quickly IMHO being experts. Wiring check and changing a few connectors to better quality ones is done.

I have paid them a third of the quote and I review their progress each week - they send me timesheets to keep them on track with the budget.

Rev counter is knacked so sent it Speedy cables to rebuild a better quality one than the faulty vintage one I had (if some of you remember there appears to be a faulty batch from a few years back). Vintage said they'd either send another on receipt of mine or $30 towards repair - hardly worth the agro. I'm betting speedy are more like £100+ for rebuild based on the calibration quoted of £80!!! At least it should be better quality and reliable.

Hope to get some good progress reports back this week.

well I have just received IVA date of 5/7.

And I have received the invoice ....

Lets just say its double what the estimate was. And they are charging an "engagement payment" of £816 which has not been mentioned to this point.

Suffice to say, I think this car will be my last ever build as the whole experience of using companies to assist has left a bitter taste in my mouth, to say the least.

this time I'd covered bases by getting a detailed estimate and agreeing to a budget which they still blew...

not happy.

What on earth is an engagement payment? I've never heard of it, (sorry if that sounds a bit thick).

i have no idea!

I am working through a fairly complex invoice at present - think it might be a tax swizz but either way it doesnt add up!

I'm going down next week to discuss this face to face with them. They are saying that I will be pleased with the finished result but at the end of the day I only wanted it to be checked over and IVA'd. I'm starting to think they might have done more work on the interior rather than just provide an ok ish interior just for IVA.

My plan was to scrape it through then go to Gary to refinish it and fit a roof.

Looks like further expenditure I could have really done without. Sick of firms deciding on what to do to bump up their income rather than what I explicitly asked for. Daylight bl33ding robbery.

Depending on the outcome depends on my feedback on Piston heads where they seem to have a following based on their Murtaya range.

Nightmare!! Sound like you have a sign on your forehead that say's "please pull my pants down!" Sorry to here your problems, I bought my car ready bulit and before the SVA days I'm glad to say.
I went to a garage yesterday and asked for a quote to fit new heat exchangers on my car, I had priced up the heat exchangers already, when he rang with the price he wanted to charge me £100 extra on each one £200 for doing nothing just ordering parts that easy money aint it?!
