Where to run wiring

Paul,
While your doing the wiring and your in the mood , have a think of putting in a cigar lighter. I've just put one in not for the celebration cigar but to be able to charge your phone/iPod or laptop. It uses a USB adapter.

good point especially as I have the worse battery life in the world on my Desire HD lol.

Just been trying to work out the carpets. Get this, Pilgrim appear to have stitched the heel pad into the passengers side....really just about shows the quality of their components. To be fair Ive chucked most of the stuff that came from them. Not a clue what goes where in terms of carpet. Nothing fits tho.

Will just chuck it in and send it to Gary for a make over once its tested.

Fecking car gonna torch it soon!

I have the 7 terminal hazard switch but cant get the blighter working with the winkers.

Winkers worked earlier but hazard switch didnt. Now hazard switch is working but winkers are not. For the life of me I cant see why.

The switch has 7 terminals that I'm a bit stuck with too....
30. I wired the purple battery to 30.
30b? no idea
L and R obvious.
15 switched ign
49 hazard relay
49a hazard relay

Only wire I have left on my loom is earth. Put it to 30b and it fuses.

Checked lots of wiring diagrams online but can't find anything useful.

Can anyone kindly suggest what to check through please?

torch it torch it and get the burgers out im glad i wasnt the only one that pulled my hair out and wanted to burn it... will have a look to see if l got anything that helps out.

Here's what l did;

49- hazard flasher
30b- hazard flasher. (Was left spare on my switch)
49a-direction flasher
L - for left indicator
R - for right indicator.
30- battery
15- ignition lock
58- side light. (was left spare on my switch)
31- earth

Thanks rich don't have 31 but will try 30b to Flasher. Just need to get some fuses!

Here's the wiring if your using the Vw switch, which might be what you got if you got 7 pins.

sorted the hazards. 30b is a jumper from the flasher 30.

However, why do my indicators flash at twice the speed of my hazards? All bulbs are working ok and I'm not using any LEDs.

First thought of reading you post was a bulb had gone, but then you said all bulbs are fine. So check all terminals are tight, go to each indicator in turn and change the bulb aswell as checking the connections. Or try another relay.

Well, spurred on by Paul I hooked the battery up today. The good news is that my hazard lights work the bad news is I have permanent 12v on the dipped beam circuit, manifesting itself, as you would expect with the headlights permanently on. Not good. I have checked the wiring, everything on the headlight relay is as it should be, and the switch. Swapped the switch for a spare and still the same.

Put a multi meter between dipped wire and earth with nothing connected up or on and sure enough 12v. If I take the plug off the headlight, side lights, indicators, hazards etc all work fine.

As a last test I connected it all back up and put the switch in the dipped beam setting and turned the master key. The headlight relay made a horrible whining noise and so I switched it off pronto. Any ideas? I too am very close to barbecuing the old git.

So am l right in thinking, you get dipped lights even when nohing is switched on via the light switch?? What wires did you connect upto the switch;ie what colour to what numbers on the switch? are you using a vw beetle light switch and relay, what colour wires to what numbers to the relay??

Also what do you refer to as "master key" is that the ignition switch or battery cut of switch??

I've just resolved an electrical gremlin in my car.

My tacho fuel and temp gauge would all die once l de-pressed the brake pedal. On releasing the pedal it all came back working. Just to twist my head a little more my brake lights would not work and the ignition light on dash stayed on whilst driving to and from the show. A quick test showed the fan belt was not slack and the alternator was charging.

This evening a couple of hours passes by Testing and it turns out l must pulled the main feed to the switched power fusebox of the back terminal when l wired up the cigar lighter the other day. Or l think it been like that since day one and only disturbed it when fitting the C/lighter. This was arcing under braking somehow killing the power.

So double check all the connection are nice and tight.

Yes, ignition off, battery cut off switch on, dipped beam on. I am using the beetle headlight switch and headlight flasher relay, wired up as per the diagram. I will check the terminals and post them up. I cannot work it out, although it seems the headlights do work on permanent live rather than switched ignition, so I'm hoping the relay is knackered, although I doubt it.

I will check how I wired the headlamp relay later and drop you a line. Looks like you have the switched 12v and the 12v to battery the wrong way round?



I have another problem....

the brake light indicator on the dash to test the curcuit, is on all the time. When I press the button I have added to test this (as I don't have a switch on handbrake), it goes out! So its working but the wrong way round!!!

Ideas on a postcard please?
