Where to run wiring

Ignore both unless your using a standard beetle engine with a single solex carb.

ok got electrics connected and battery on but think Ive cocked up the headlight pull switch.

Any idea which wires go to which connections?

I have 56, 57 58 and 30.

I wired 30 to battery, 56 to headlight relay and 57 to side light and dash lights, then 58 to earth.

works on side but is doing some weird stuff on dip beam!

Paul, i have everything connected except reverse light switch and wiper motor. You are braver than me, i dare not connect the battery. Never had this worry before

My plan was to fit one fuse at a time and connect the battery and test individually. Was everything else okay?

Your switch doesn't appear to be standard vdub, but i can check the numbers on the back of mine tomorrow for you.

cheers I'll have a play tomorrow. Think got an earth issue too as indicator was on very dim when switched on headlights.

I spent most of yesterday wiring the engine and the isolator. Fri was spent doing the dials and switches and column stalk.

Today I just added the earth strap for the battery, connected the speedo cable and tidied up a bit.

All the fuses were intact none blew. That amazed me!! I even took each one out to check haha.

Not got hazard switch yet so indicators not working yet.

Have you got a reverse switch in your box? Mine had a blanking plug only took 5 mins to get the switch in - thought it would take hours as its in the nose of the box. Took longer to suss out where the speedo cable went lol. Only once i checked that the length wouldnt meet the box did I realise the cable obviously doesnt go to the box !

Tank was washed out and added today too so almost ready to start Kev!

You are obviously working faster than me.

Switch not in box, I wasn't actually sure it could be fitted with the gearbox installed. How did you get to the plug, from underneath?

easy to get out - use a plumbers wrench side on - reuse the seal from the blanking plug too. Use axle stands tho....you get at it from underneath yes

I had to cut off the connectors on my pilgrim loom and use my own as they were crap.

Took about 5 mins in the end - was thinking it would be a horrendous job!

lights working and rogue indicator sorted - didnt connect an earth which was hiding...

Horn doesnt work now and no dash warning lights grrr.

Each day its a step nearer being completed though...

Have you earthed the horn? I think it usually earths through the mounting strap.

Stupidly I assumed it would all work so covered the wiring....will now need to strip it back and check it all through - accidentally turned the engine over tho so I know that works

Looking forward to seeing all the motors at Stoneleigh for some interior inspiration

I'm sure I have read somewhere that the standard fuel sender needs bending back to front to make it work in the speedster - is this correct or am i having a moment? Its reading right at the top of the gauge at present when the tanks empty!

Also I assume I need to earth the tank?

Yes l read that to, can't see it myself. As your using a beetle tank with a beetle sender. Just make sure you fit it facing the right direction otherwise it will sit on the shelf of the tank instead of the bottom. If that makes sense.

well i bent it back and now it works. Strange that i actually shortened it as a result it was catching on the base of the tank.

All electrics seem to be working now except for the reverse light. Put a new switch in so will have to run through the wires again.

Started on door panels now. Might even attempt carpets on monday...!

Shame that I'll have missed most shows this year but will look out for one after June/July if I can get the test done around then.

While your doing the wiring and your in the mood

, have a think of putting in a cigar lighter. I've just put one in not for the celebration cigar but to be able to charge your phone/iPod or laptop. It uses a USB adapter.

Yes a cigarrette lighter socket is a must. For plugging in the electric blankets, cool box,kids nintendo ds charger,iphone,cooling fan when stuck in traffic,ipad etc.
