Advice please

I have a potential buyer for my wood rimmed steering wheel. He is new to Ddk having one post (asking for a wooden wheel) and lives in Australia. The price he has offered me is lower than I asked but still agreeable to me.

My question, I would ask him to pay me before I ship the wheel but what's the best method of payment ? Paypal is probably the most straight forward but I seem to remember reading it's not foolproof. How should I approach this ?

I think the deal with paypal is that he can say it either hasn't arrived or was damaged, etc and can then request his payment back via paypal which paypal will do quite happily. Result you end you out of pocket and due to the locations you will never know if it did arrived damaged or went AWOL. I'd go with an electronic transfer if possible.

I think Mark (912UK) had a big fallout with Paypal due to similar reasons.

Mike - I would send a pm to one of the 'established' Australian members like Ryan (obrut), Andy (ajwans), Cameron Arnott - I can vouch for all of them - to see if they know Murf (?).

For payment, I would ask for a bank transfer (make sure that the buyer pays all associated fees).

I agree, bank transfer is best. (he asked about my wheel too but I said yours was better value

). I don't think I would go much lower, your batwing is nice and commands a value on it's own (especially in the States).
Payment first including postage, then ship once funds have cleared is the way to go. Maybe with a tracking number to keep the customer happy.

I can confirm this. Used to think Paypal was good but, my son has just had a Paypal payment reversed for an Ebay transaction. Item value was only £12, sent first class post. No contact from buyer, first he knows Paypal inform him of a negative balance on his account. Not informed of what the problem is, buyer won't respond directly, you can't speak to anybody. Payment reversal upheld. They seem very ready to act for buyer but not seller.

Mike - perhaps a bit late now, by I'm currently working in Australia so have an Aussie bank account etc...happy to act as intermediary if you like, subject to him (or you) picking up currency exchange costs.

Thanks for the Offer Viv, very generous. Good old DDk and it's international banking facility.

Ppmurf has come back to me with a more attractive offer and has offered to transfer funds directly into my account before the wheel is shipped.

Googling the guy does throw up a reasonable amount of info... At least he exists... What could possibly go wrong.
