I have asked for more details and will post any response if the seller does not include it as a revision to the original (v limited) description.

To the questions:-
Dear davboo,

Hi, does it start and run or non-runner,is it complete- if not what is missing, do brakes work, does clutch operate without slipping/judder?
I can see tyres are worn, what else needs replacing or repair/restoring?
Regards...

I'm off to view this on Saturday morning with my Dad. I wanted to go tonight but it's kept outside and there is limited light.

I just spoke to the guy over the phone & he added a few extra bits of detail. The hydraulics don't work but it runs ok.

What are people's opinions on this Allgaier? Does it count as a Porsche?!!! Ha ha! I'm hoping it's ok as it's relatively close to me and could save me some hassle!

Ok so I've managed to squeeze in some more research...... I've just realised this Allgaier was advertised in last months Tractor & Machinery magazine and was priced at 3 grand!!! The advert describes it in pretty much the same way as the ebay description but states the engine is getting tired! Apparently a guy came over from Ireland, pulled it to pieces and walked away at two grand.

I'm seriously interested in this tractor but would like some of your opinions on it please - I'm eager to buy but also eager to not get stung as such! My Dad and I are going to go halves (as we are with any tractor we buy) so I'm as interested in looking after his interest as I am my own.
We had pretty much decided that a trip to Europe was in order to get one anyway & have also been looking at M.A.N tractors.

So what does anyone think?

Thanks.

Gill.

Oooops..... my finger just slipped on the mouse and I hit the buy it now!

Speaking with local Porsche expert Peter Bradley just convinced me that it was priced reasonably, the same as a P111 and much easier than going to Europe. He said it's the only Allgaier Porsche he doesn't have in his collection - can't be bad!

Hoping to collect next Sunday when I've organised a trailer.

Let's see - I'll keep you updated.

914-6 - glad I helped them out then!

Ok, so my eagerness got the better of me & a friend managed to borrow a truck so we collected the tractor today!!!

The verdict ..... ace - me & my Dad are both really happy with it!

Good points...

It starts & runs well & the engine seems fine for now, it does breathe a little bit but it's rare an old tractor doesn't that hasn't been rebuilt!

It is mostly complete & relatively unmolested.

The PTO works as it should.

The tyres are serviceable & all matching Dunlops.

The kingpins seem ok.

The clutch is ok.

The brakes work well.

There is no rot in the tinwork.

The steering is tightish.

It has the original starting handle.

All the badges & trim are there.

The paintwork will be ok for now.

Stuff needed...

Lights all round.

Rear 3 point linkage refitting & hydraulics sorting.

Gauges & original switches for the dash pod need sourcing.

Oil change.

Charging sytem sorting.

Road registering.

The tractor came with several Porsche - Diesel & Allgaier parts DVDs & also an Allgaier book.

It seems the tractor could actually be quite rare, it is badged Allgaier Diesel & System Porsche, however the original V.I.N plate has Porsche - Diesel - Friedrichshafen on it. Thus meaning it must be an early Mannesmann produced Porsche-Diesel P111 but with Allgaier badging & livery, not an Allgaier - Uhingen produced tractor. I think the tractor must have come over from France as the Dunlops have French writing on them (made in France) & one of the non-original switches on the dash is of French origin.

We have decided not to fully restore the tractor for now, we plan to obtain & fit the correct lights & road register it, then attempt to sort the hydraulics. The battery that came with the tractor is poor so we intend to purchase & fit a Bosch one. We will run this as a dead loss system until we sort the charging issue out. The Bosch regulator box looks to be the same as one I have left from one of my old 12 volt VW Beetles & I hope the dynamo brushes are too - any ideas?

This afternoon I greased all the greasing points, sorted the stiff throttle lever, got my head around the starting procedure & started to give it a good polish with some Farecla G3. I started wiping the engine with thinners & the oil stains cleaned off & it polished up quite nicely, then I ran out of thinners! I also used it to tow my girlfriends old smashed up VW Polo up the yard with the brakes stuck on - it managed this easily!

I have taken loads of photos of the tractor, including the V.I.N, but I have little success with posting photos on forums so if anyone could help me by putting them up if I emailed them that would be appreciated? Also if anyone could shed any light on the issues I have stated that would also be appreciated.

Regards.

Gill.
