Ex-pat UK 2.2S in Oz

Post by bremith »

Loathe to put this in "restoration threads" because it commits me to a certain journey...

anyway (as I have posted in the new member bit - slow day here in Oz) have bought this...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1970-PORSCHE-911 ... 650wt_1167

and plan to turn it back into this...

http://www.export56.com/carsforsale/sal ... ?SaleID=42

I'm hoping it won't require this sort of commitment...

http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=27582

but will find out soon when I pull it apart.

It's the next chassis number from the car on Export56 (9110300158) and according to Porsche was also delivered in RHD in the UK in Signal Orange (1414) but in Dec 69 so if the Export56 info is reliable I suppose that makes it another one of the "8"???

I have confirmed that engine and gearbox numbers match chassis so that's a start.

Original reg was CLK92H - can any UKer tell me if this information is any use to me in working out the history of the car? I have no history with the car at all.

My plan is to strip down to chassis and fix whatever needs fixing, build back up as proper narrow body, get it all back together with what I have then pick up all the missing S bits over time so far as budget and availability allows.

2 questions to start if people are kind enough to assist:

Q1: Original reg was CLK92H - can any UKer tell me if this information is any use to me in working out the history of the car? I have no history with the car at all, no idea how long it has been in Oz or whether it was "updated" here or in UK

Q2: seeing as I have to start somwehere and will definitely need wheels early on, if I have a build date of Nov 69 and sold date of 01.12.69, what date deep sixes would be "correct" for the car, and do I need 4 of the same month? Apologies if these are basic questions - I have a boxful of Porsche books on the way from Amazon which probaly give me an answer to Q2 but I can't wait to start...

Will post some photos when I can if folk are interested.

Cheers

Mitchell

Hey Mitchell welcome to DDK

I can't really help out with the queries other than you can write to the DVLA in the UK and get copies of the previous regos which will give you the postal addresses of the previous owners whom you could write to?

Where in Oz are you - I'm currently working in Perth
