Hi Tim

Sorry to hear about the engine! Autofarm had a 2.5ST motor (possibly on carbs) ar Castle Heddingham. It certainly won't be cheap, my own has cost around £20K to build. Edmond Harris had a genuine one for sale last year for £90K

I was trying to think of a way to make sure that your motor ended up in my car Nick, but I don't think I've got a big enough bribe!

Hi Graham,

Gutted really. Still not right after a 3 year wait! Car ran fine on 700 mile journey back from BS Motorsport in April although it did overheat at one point on the M6 and there was a slight oil leak from the end of one of the crank cases, which I already knew about.

When home though the overheating became much worse. Thought it was a dodgy fan belt and replaced it with a new one correctly adjusted to no avail. Oil coolers and pipes hot (much too hot) so thermostat working but overheating became gradually worse and so did the oil leak which is now really significant! The only saving grace is that the crank cases are aluminium (from a 936) and can therefore be repaired!

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the info. Does your ST engine cost include the donor engine (?2.2S), and is it on MFI? Also, who built it for you and do you have any photos?

Also, I need to get an idea of the 'residual' value of my engine as unfortunately I can't afford to start from zero with the finances. I am told the 7R aluminium crank cases are repairable and are likely to be quite valuable as they are the type fitted to the 936 and the "baby" RSR Turbo 2.1 (no fins on the bottom). Also the engine has all the right bits now courtesy of Neil Bainbridge but it was purchased as an amateur rebuild and Neil hasn't looked at the bottom end so we don't know whats going on down there!

I think Nick's engine is the one I have seen being built by Nick Fulljames of Redtek (who is currently doing mine). It certainly looks awesome!

Why don't you just get it rebuilt into a good set of 7R cases. There is an ongoing thead on my engine build at http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=25329

Thanks Nick, your engine is really something special! My technical knowledge is pretty limited but once my ali 7R 936 cases are repaired I guess these could be used for a 2.5ST spec engine build similar to yours???? Plus a few other bits from my current engine such as the MFI pump, or would it need a different one?

When will your engine be in the car?

Thanks Jason, the engine is still not sorted as business is not too good this year. However, problems may stem from failure of the oil scavange pump, hence too much oil in the crank case, pressurisation, oil leaks and loss of power. Hopefully Neil Bainbridge at BS Motorsport will strip it down so we can be certain once I have removed it from the car and sent it to him.
