Restoration colours for SWB... go pastel... advice please
OK. Having toppled back from the brink and not sold the SWB, and given the great set of photos of the '68 911T (ex IoW car) in September's edition of GT Porsche, I am glad I did not sell - I now have to decide a colour...
It's not going back to champagne gelb however.
So, I am thinking a pastel green, or Steve McQueen grey.

sea foam green:
Any ideas if these are the 'real' colours as above?
Other alternatives welcome please.

Steve McQueen Grey as in the colour of his skin towards the end of his demise?
I love Sea Foam but have not actually ever seen one in real life!

With due respect to the site I found this on: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Fe ... d=126937#6
Sort of looks different colours to me, every time I see it, and in the movie possibly because of film stock and transfer, it is a different colour again.

OK. Showed the budgetmeister at home the photos above, and asked her opinion (like she gives a 5h*t) and sea foam green it is. I think she was more annoyed that I was watching Le Mans on the Mac in the kitchen at the same time with the screen on pause with the car at the town square (about 2.07 into the film) instead of putting the washing on...
Any other suggestions gratefully received.

I find that an extremely difficult colour to judge, but I personally love these fading pastels colours on a swb- In my opinion one of the attractions of your particular car, especially in the "light" conditions of the UK.
This S is still for sale at Export56 - it might be worthwhile to take She Who Must Be Consulted along for an opinion?
This is very close to light Ivory and I am pretty sure I have not come accross a champagne yellow SWB.
Finally, Helen's Apal was champagne yellow IIRC....
Best regards,
Bert

Yup. Pastel works for me. Perhaps I might re-evaluate the champagne gelb...
A few months ago I could not believe it when this 911 stopped at my local newsagents. Nice faded red. Restored over a period of years. Never seen it before, or since. Nice guy.

apologies, I am a huge Mcqueen fan and wasn't in anyway suggesting his skin colour related to his illness. It's well documented that his excessive drinking of Old Milwaukee and persistent use of substances gave him a grey tone well before he was ever 'ill'Dakota wrote:Am I being pecious or am I the only one that didn't find the Steve McQueen skin colour thing funny and doesn't DDK support a cancer charity?
happy to remove it if anyone is offended by it?

I'm glad somebody else has noticed this. You see dark red and blue cars in southern Europe that look stunning but back home in Blighty they are just drab.Bertroex wrote: especially in the "light" conditions of the UK.

Take care and make sure you see the coulour in UK light before deciding, that's my advice!
