ID plate

Post by Ralph »

Does anybody know what this ID plate is for? It was on my 1970 911e when purchased and the painter refitted it after painting.

Were D'Ieteren still the Belgian importers in 1970 ?
This looks very like the AMAG (Swiss) importers plate that was discussed in a thread on the Early S site a while ago.

Is it possible D'Ieteren ever did Chassis work on 911s ??

I do know they made some limited number (200 plus) of the 356 twin grill roadster chassis / bodies.
Cheers

I have just acquired a '74 Carrera 2.7 with the same kind of plate. The car was ordered by an English lady through AFN at Isleworth but supplied as a 'tourist delivery' to Brussels where she was working at the time.

could it be a homologation certificate?..

we fit similar plates (in terms of details) to machines at work for certain countries with specific roading homologation requirements, above and beyond the standard EU requirements..

I asked myself that question when having my first 911 at 25 when still in Belgium. I understood that:

1. D'Ieteren is the importer (still) of Porsche
2. There is a Belgian homologation certificate that allows that particular type of Porsche as being approved according to Belgian legislation (e.g. left hand rear fog light only , seat belts etc etc) which differs from the German Spec
3. The Belgian Department of Transport doesn't recognise the Porsche AG (Or KG in case of pre-1973) Factory Vin plate, only the D'ieteren Porsche Import /attestation to Belgian Homologation ID plate.
4. Most Belgian Porsches have not have the Factory ID on the car.
