Oh happy days..

After a hard few months, things are going great!

1. The 356 is charging her battery all by herself, for the first time in two years! The big black bosch regulator was faulty, replaced by a new regulator which also turned out to be faulty (after the usual 'wtf' troubleshooting confusion), sent the black Bosch to Joe Leoni in the states who recalibrated it, repainted it and put on a new sticker for 40 bucks. And now it works! No more 'could I just get a wee push, mate..'

2. The 356 is running beautifully, after intermittently being a grumpy old thing for a long time, I have traced the problem to dirt in the slow running jets. Got it sorted, had the carbs balanced by a wise man in brown overalls, and she idles smooth at hardly any rpm, and pulls strong as ever.. No more embarrassing suddenly losing a cylinder or two on a hill with traffic behind me! Tightening the link pins has got rid of the front end shudder I used to get too.

3. She (the car) is getting attention in this lovely weather! Last week I got an entire playground full of kids running over to the fence and shouting and cheering. Not many cars can do that.. At the weekend I was having an ice cream with my son in St Andrews, watching from a distance as people peered at the car. One tourist couple took pictures of each other standing next to it! Form a queue please!

4. I finally got my Omega speedmaster back from a service with Swatch group, and they have done a stunning job - more like a full resto. STS sent it to Swatch as it is one of the newer calibres, but after my initial reservations I would recommend them strongly. Its going better than ever, the chrono function is smooth as anything after being all clunky, and the scratches have magically all gone.

5. After much hard work and considerable anguish, I got a new permanent job locally, so I dont have to move house in the autumn or sell the cars! Hooray!

6. My 3 year old just decided to toilet train himself, all done in a few days. No more kneeling on the bathroom floor getting sh!te everywhere as he kicks about!

Sounds like it's all coming together.

Today is the first day I've brought the 912 in to work for a while, all better thanks to PRS' leccy man rebuilding the starter. (thanks Paul)

A12 rush hour is never better than in the sun with the targa roof off

We're about to put our 2.5 yr old into toilet training - wish me luck!

fwiw, I have no Porsche but a lad who took to peeing in the potty very quickly. He was 2 and a half...worst day was 7 accidents about 3 days in. Since then we have had half a dozen accidents.

Be prepared for happily peeing in the potty but wanting a nappy otherwise. It took us well over 6 months for that, but we got there without much grief

Next challenge is getting him off a potty and to use the loo. We are working on that...

Life really is a rollercoaster (I'm sure that's a song title) and I'm so pleased you're on a roll

Found this on t'internet of afore mentioned 356 last year at Culzean - glad she's running so smoothly.

In true proud sisterly fashion - I want to share with the rest of DDK your 'new job' achievement. After over 20 years of pure slog and determination, motivation, overcoming so many obstacles and with sheer hard work, you have achieved your ultimate goal as a consultant in your career in medicine - well done kiddo

Congratulations, Mr Shave!! And for those of us blessed with Sisters Who Care (I have two!!) even more strength to the right arm.
Can't say I haven't had my share of runs-in with those in your profession, but there has to be a few butchers among thousands of craftsmen - why are they all down here? That's what I'd like to know!!

And, good to see other DDKers are facing the toddler toilet ultimatum. Our Ferg was great, he totally sorted himself, so we didnt even need the Taser gun and industrial decontamination suit we bought specially..

Congrats Johnny on the car, the toilet training and the career. The sun has been out in Scotland all week too.......yep, you are on a roll, long may it continue.
