Tag are making quite a lot of the anniversary of the Monaco.

Has anybody seen the new re-issue of he Monaco. Rather than a homage as the current ones are it's a closer replica. Costs more than a real one though!

dont think the reisssues are out yet.....and they are 6.5K got my name down for one but think I'll leave it at that price, only 70 coming to UK

oh really? must have been another tag he brought. His has a black face I think rather than a blue one.. I remember him getting a re-issue fairly recently and then selling it because he got a good deal on an original one..

Looks like a really nice watch though, will be a good investment I guess if there are only a few coming to the UK!..

Nice idea, but its nothing new to mix old and new on screen and the execution is abit poor, the person doing McQueens voice doesn't even remotely sound like him and they could have tried to CGI'd the lip sinc. I'm sure it cost them a fortune but the production is below par for such a prestigious company, faces and names involved.

Agreed, I think I'd be tempted to leave it. I saw a press release but they had used a picture of an original! The £6.5K one just doesn't seem worth it to me.

Looks similar to my first edition (the first blue faced) re issue but with slightly different hands, horizontal numeral markings and the deletion of the TAG part of the logo

I hate to be a complete cynic but I'm getting rather tired of TAG rehashing old designs and living of the "cool" of their 60's and 70's designs (when they weren't even TAG!). It's all rather lazy. Why can't they just concentrate on designing the next new design icon? It all sounds like a certain car manufacturer we're rather fond of.

And while I'm in a cynical mood, I thought I'd paste this post taken from someone on the 911s registry. He has a point:-

I'm sorry, but I don't know who that is supposed to appeal to. Its both crass and dopey. McLaren may be off the pace this year, but it is inadvertently entertaining to to think their current F1 car can't overtake a 1970 sports racer driven by a guy who's been dead since 1980...)

Tag Heuer seems to never tire of milking what was a quite brief and entirely commercial relationship with McQueen during the filming of a movie almost 40 years ago. (Anyone ever seen a photo of McQueen wearing a Monaco outside the set of LeMans? I haven't. Likely because he otherwise always wore his Rolex 5512 Stainless No Date Sub. And without a check from Rolex!)

Now the marketing geniuses at LVMH, most of whom have likely never seen LeMans, bring in their latest paid "motorsports" endorser for some remotely tenuous synergy to McQueen, to move some ugly, orange faced quartz chronographs.

Sorry. Its brand cynicism squared, in my opinion.

Very true points about the ad in general, but bare in mind Cool doesnt have a sell by date......so
Maybe dont consider it as a marketing strategy milking their (weak?)motoring history, but one to ATTRACT a new generation. Id love a TAG, and only because of the LeMans connection.
