The car came 'sans' engine but I do have the original 'S' 901 gearbox.elkelk wrote:Great to see another car rescued, love the race paint. Were the engine and gearbox complete too? What are your plans for the rest of the car?
This is somethig I am giving a lot of thought to at the moment - I have discovered a lot of conflicting opinions about the 901 boxes - and have no experience of them myself - other than in my 914/6.
Engine - wise , again this is currently being considered. As the car is not trying to be a 100% faithful replica , I do have a wide choice - but it has to be something 'special'.
At the moment I've got a couple of people looking out for me , but if anyone knows of a 2.5 short stroke lying about anywhere - I would love to hear about it.
I will be going up to RS911 this week , so I'll get some pictures of the car out of the booth.

I think my 911 passion was engendered from a model of the original I bought from a small shop around the corner from the Nat History Musuem in London. Aged 8 (c1975).
The graphics and archs are something else.
Great job.

Visited the car again this week - getting VERY close to coming home now - can't wait !!
Mark is just starting to flat and polish the paintwork , and while it was easily accessible , we just had to put some decent wheels on it for the 1st time.
I have a set of Minilites on order - but the Fuches give the idea for now

P.S. Could you tell me which tires you're running on the rear 13J? fuchs wheels?
The rear tyres on those wheels (12 x 15) are Yokohama 285/40/15.

Hi having a 901 gearbox in my car for the last 12 years I was interested in your
about the 901 box, Motor is short stroke with 2.8 B & P "S" heads " S " cams, goes well with lots of low down power (watch youtube video if it has loaded) Regards Peter

Well - progress has been a little slow recently - due to finishing the 914/6 / LeMans / holidays etc. - but I am now back in ST mode , and have made some progress in the last few weeks.
I have attacked the interior - cutting off all unecessary bracketry , scraping off several acres of tar and sound deadening , and painted with Rust Bullet.
I've also welded in reinforcements for the bolted in cage.

With the inside ready for the fun bits , I put it up on the lift to tackle the underside - stripping off the suspension , and a LOT of scraping to do !!
I am now planning the suspension / brakes upgrades , and ordering parts while the scraping/painting continues - so hopefully I should have a nice clean shell to bolt nice clean parts onto in a few weeks time
I am constantly amazed by the condition of this shell - there is no sign of floor / sill repairs anywhere - even the original kidney bowls are solid shiny steel - if only there were more like this !!
