Radio Connector

Not done it, but it looks easy enough.
A question for someone that has one: -
Do you flick a switch or remove the headphones to switch from radio to Ipod ?
Or can someone lend me one ?

Hi

I have one fitted to my car, I just made up the din connector which I got from RS, have a look at this link

The wiring that I worked out was like tis.

As my car has only one speaker I have only connected one output from the ipod to the radio, you should not tie the left and the right output together (Tim might confirm this!!) you can select the track to play in mono in itunes but i have found very little difference in quality due to the noise the rest of the car makes. I have used mine for a couple of years and had no problems with my ipod nano. Hope you sort yours.

Does fitting this stop the radio from working John ?
From the wiring diagram I have, it appears that a link is needed to switch from Radio to DIN input. As yours doesn't have a switch, just the hardwired link, it looks like it would stop the radio from working. Maybe this isn't a problem.
You shold cretainly NOT connect L and R together to make a mono. Perhaps via two 32 Ohm resistors and take the center to the mono input would be fine.

my car has no arial so I am not 100% sure but I think that the radio will work if the ipod is not connected to the jack plug and when the ipod is connected the aux input takes over from the radio. I could connect an arial and see what happens.

Thats the one problem with it - but the way i see it is, i have better taste in music than any radio nob jockey

Oh, from what i read it switched from radio to aux input when something was connected to the aux input. and then once unplugged it would revert back to radio. Is this not the case?

As you say though, - I'd much rather listen to music than some crap DJ...

I only want the Ipod to work as my arial is not connected anyway so cool with that...

When I first looked at this, I thought that a simple 3.5mm inline jack socket and a DIN plug would be all that is required. Having seen the offering from the other company, I could see that they had put a relatively large block where the socket was. This started me to wander why.
Using a panel mount 3.5mm jack socket, I could make the insertion of the Ipod jack into this block, switch the radio off and turn the input to the IPOD. Remove the IPOD jack to revert. This plan is fine, but means that there is a baulky block to conneck the IPOD to. Without this, the radio would be disabled whilst the DIN plug was plugged into the back of the radio. Not a problem I hear you say !
If nobody is bothered by the radio part, then I could make two versions, One with a 3.5mm socket for you to plug a jack lead from your IPOD to the lead.
OR
A 3.5mm plug that just plugs direct into the IPOD.
What do you think ?

er I don't get what you mean but from my side I was going ask for using my old orginal radio a lead coming from that to the ipod. The volume to the speaker is controled by the orginal radio?( and the ipod )

my current radio is a new one and it has a jack connection and the ipod fits that so having a lead is no issue for me..my new phone HTC Touch HD much like the Iphone works also in the same way..

My preference would be to have the radio function available if possible, just in case....

And the bulky connector block wouldnt be problem - this could be hidden elsewhere (behind the dash board perhaps) and then a lead plugged into the block which could lead to the ipod which can be located wherever.

My phone has a built in Radio so that's why I am not bothered as I only want to use the radio as a amplifer for the speakers and to control the volume and still looking original
