Another Newbie

Post by tricky71 »

Hi All,
Just to introduce myself, Tricky from North London, I've been dipping into the forum for a while but as I've just picked up a 1970 911T Targa Cali import (via Ireland) I though I'd better go formal.
I drove her back from Cork and she drives like a dream, my one gripe is the gearbox is like stirring treacle (with a bag of spanners thrown in). Are they all this bad or am I unlucky, and can you fit a later box to them?
Thanks all

Tricky

Hi Tricky

Welcome to the DDK :)

Although your car probably has a 901/911 gearbox this article gives the basics on how to imrove your gear shift.

Welcolme Tricky ! Presumably the gearbox is a 5 speed dog leg style with first beneath reverse ? If thats the case the box should be very smooth but can take a little getting used to. Excellent for fast downshits from 3rd to 2nd.

Thanks guys!! It is the earlier box but I wouldn't say it was smooth, the downshift from 3rd to 2nd is good but trying to find any other gear is hard work, I've gone into 2nd when looking for 4th more than once! You really have to hunt for the gear, sounds like it may need some adjustment!

welcome to DDK, uumm sounds like your gears need some attention they shouldn't be that difficult to locate.
i struggled with first gear for a while before realizing that it just wasn't going to engage untill the car was stationary.
