Am posting my own reply to my own question cos i have just found out that the key number is on the cam arm (the grey metal triangular shaped bit) that the barrel screws into at the back end of the handle. Fingers crossed, the correct key is on its way over to me as we speak and in few days, everyth...

That initial disappointment when it first comes apart (and you see just how 'simple' the job's going to be) is now balanced out by knowing that the end result is really sound.
