Much help Required ... I have a 1969 Porsche 911E at some point in the past the engine has been replaced with an early 1969 911T engine (2.0).
I have been experiencing a misfire problem on and off for quite some time and don't seem able to rectify this.
I have tried numerous checks and inspections to no avail (List too long to mention!!!) but have now managed to isolate the problem to a timing issue.
To be more specific the contact breaker points fitted maybe incorrect, Can anybody advise me on the correct breaker point set part number and where I can purchase them PLEASE?
The ignition system on this car is the conventional type i.e points and condensor (NOT) CDS TYPE. The distributor is a BOSCH item Part Number - 0231159007 with a mechanical advance mechanism I would appreciate comments on whether this appears or not to be the correct distributor for this engine model.

The 007 is from a S and not a T engine as T's are 008 and E's 006. I believe that all three use the same contact set which I get from
Lucas and there part number is DSB432C and is priced at £2.95. Hope this helps.

Hello, Jason.
Your problems are at least twofold IMHO:
First the wrong dizzy, second the wrong ignition system.
All 911's really require CDS to run properly..this was one of the most important advances made early on in their evolution.
Someone has robbed your car of these sought-after bits..
Provided the loom is intact, you need the special coil, the cds box, and the correct dizzy.
Kind regards
David

David the CDI was not standard until the 1969/70 model range and therefore you can have (as I do) a 1969 engine with a standard ignition system. My engine is 2.0T with the 008 dissy.

CDI's do pop up on ebay from time to time, but if you find a broken one, I have been known to fix them.
On the miss fire subject, have you tried disconnecting the tacho ? This may be a temporary fix, but has helped on some cars, mostly CDi box cars, where we ended up re routing how the tacho feed was wired.
Cheers

you could also go down the MSD route

My car is a 69T but now with a 2.4 and I have been told it might be worth adding a CDi box at some stage in the future although it isn't a necessity. I've been told it's not worth messing around with used ones, but buying a new one from Porsche for around £500?
(Some may remember by car has a 3D mapped ignition system which is currently disconnected, and although it works the 'wisdom' is that I am better of with dizzy, coil and ultimately CDi box.)
If I add a CDi box will I definitely have to rewire the tacho?

CDI boxes are NOT a black art, there is nothing in them that isn't Sixties tachnology. There is nothing wrong with second hand ones, though I've seen some shocking soldering bodges in repaired ones. You can carry round a spare Non-cdi coil and condensor untill you are happy with the reliability.
Your tacho feed, if points, will probably come from the points, if you switch to the CDI, you just switch the feed to the CDI side of the coil Easy. In the manual, there are things called "switching SCR" in the tacho circuit. this was not fitted in my car, and no-one I've spoke to knows what the device is for ! Some cars wire the tacho feed to the points on a CDi system, but I have seen in the past that this can cause misfire problems , wiring to the CDI side of the coil has fixed this for a few people now.
As for whether the points system is better or worse than an electronic system, all I can say is that People used to believe the world was flat !
It may not be mapped correctly yet though, but should return far more predictable timing results over the rev range. .

Yes, I should read more carefully...
An early 69 stock 2.0T engine would indeed have kettering system ignition originally..not to say its any good though!
While the car , and any 1969 model car, should have CDI as stock, and this has been pinched..what wiring bodge has been done is of course an issue..
Kind regards
