Just had the alternator reconditioned and refitted - what a difference. The engine sounds so crisp now that all the whistles and wheezes from the dodgy bearings have gone. Wouldn't have believed it would make so much difference. Can't wait for Stanford Hall to give it a blast.

Same here: finally got mine running properly late saturday: it turns out that having the cooling tinwork partially covering the inlet manifold - head joint isn't good

Whoever had put the Webers on had simply chucked on the new manifolds without checking the fit. Therefore I was on the drive at 11.00pm saturday snipping the away excess tinwork that had led to air leaks (lucky I didn't burn a valve: funny thing was the plugs looked fine
). A quick carb balance whilst awaiting Bootsy's arrival at V/World, and it was done. Now oodles of power, smooth idle and fast starting. Really enjoyed my drive there and back: the first time since I've owned it

Absolutely Roger, I took mine on a 260 mile round trip last weekend up to Norfolk, mostly A roads and what a laugh
The trip to Volksworld on a sunny sunday morning was just as much fun too, 7-8am blasting through London with no trafficand the lid off was a rare treat.
Hope your car's going well now Nige, not seen it yet, so see you at Stanford as well

I've got a car pass to be on the stand with you guys if everything goes to plan. Got the car booked in on a local rolling road to have the carbs jetted/balanced properly, its popping back through the carbs on the idle circuit but pretty much fine throughout the rest of the rev range.
They specialise in MGs but seem to do other more exotic vehicles

Just got to figure out logistics for Stanford Hall, I'd like it to be a family day out for us all, the baby seat will fit in the front of the Porsche but Ali won't fit in the back for long enough. So it might just be me on my own or I might drag a mate along as well.

Looks like it could be a good season with all this machinery being fettled into shape.
Barry - must be a 914 thing as my carbs were hanging off when I purchased my car.
Nige - looking forward to seeing the 912
