Scary bearings

The clonking from the front has been getting louder recently....

Also the steering has become increasingly vague (even worse than is normal for an early 911 :) )

Just woggled the front wheels and    +/- 5 deg of camber on the LH front

Guess you can only 'nip' the front bearings up for the MOT so many times before you really have to do them!!!

Any hints and tips for replacement?? Good sources for bearings??

Hello, Gary.

Yes, heat!

Its very easy to bugger the hubs drifting the races out..so if you heat them in the oven when the missus is out, it saves no end of swearing..they just drop out..
If you are well prepared, and have frozen the new ones , they just drop in , and need only a few well-judged taps when cooling to settle them..

Even so, I strongly recommend you check the float several times over the fist week..

Kind regards
David

I have an oven and a freezer, so I'm sorted :)

Job for a forthcoming weekend methinks.

Seeing as my Audi has broken down :( this got priority!!

45 minutes later and we are back on the road!

The oven trick was superb. The outer race just dropped in, I didn't even need to hit it 8)
