Do any of you afficionados know if a set of 6 x 16 and 7 x 16 fuchs 5 spokes will fit on my 914 without any mods to the bodywork?

I know I'd have to get my discs dilled but wondered if these would tuck in ok - seems to be plenty of room at the front but not sure on the back?

I think that you can get 7's under the rear arches but it does depend on tyre size. I think the maximum that I have seen on a '14 is 205 width rubber. So if you can get 205 width rubber on 16inch with a suitable low profile then they should fit (but don't quote me on it!!!)>

PET shows the 16" Fuchs as being ET23.3, this is got gonna help your case

I've seen some pics on US sites with what look like 6's and 7's but maybe they teased the rear arches out with a baseball bat. I read somewhere that 205's are the biggest tyre that will fit..

Sorry Martin - is ET the offset measured from the inside rim to the contact surface (or is it easy tiger?)

Does this mean that you've got a set lined up then, Kevin? Must admit it would lovely with them on. When I do the paint on mine I want to try to take the wings out a little: those Empi reps (Beetle) are just about touching: look O.K. when it's still, but the rub-marks on the previous tyres show that they were moving around enough to touch: must be moving 3/5 mm I would think. Hopefully the poly-bushes will reduce this a bit.

In essence though, the above would seem to imply that you might want to make sure you've got a little bit more clearance than might first be expected, just to be sure.

I did try rolling the lip of the rear arches, which sometimes you can do with the paint on, but not in this case, so I will have to wait for now .

Great info Martin - ta. Barry I do have my eyes on a set but they may get a bit expensive, have to see, the 16's dont seem to go for loads, probably as theyre more common.

I reckon some tweaking would be needed on the back, like you say maybe rolling the arches plus the minimum width tyre poss. It looks like its possible from various pics I've found.

Reckon they would look cool with polishd rims and body painted centres in silver (cheaper and less maintenance than polishing (been there done that got the scars..))

Certainly a 7 inch rim (16 inch) looks fine with 205's: quite nice in fact as the tyre doesn't overhang the rim. Be interested to see what you end up with .

P.S. Have you got a contact for the drilling/tapping operation? (I haven't I'm afraid).

I've got 7 & 6 x 16s on my 912 and have 205x55 fitted all round. That size tyre looks good on those rims, I did have to roll my rear arches slightly. Not that this helps much as its 912 body, either I think a set of 16 will look awesome on a 914

I think with 7's you'll have to do some arch rolling...

They do look good on Fuchs though.

You may want to think about upgrading the front suspension to 911 too, then 911 rear hubs............

and does it ever stop Ian? (The answer you're looking for is no!)

Yeah I've been contemplating that one - its a budget issue really but if I'm gonna rebuild the front brakes/struts anyway then it may be just as cheap to go 911 if I can get the bits for the right price.

My brakes are certainly high on the agenda as I dont have much confidence with them at the moment
