DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I’m going to build and sell a restomod and make £200k+ profit, as seems to be about the industry norm.

The basic plan is:

1. Get a base car as cheap as possible. This is increasingly difficult to do with air-cooled rear-engined cars and I don’t think I’ll get to my target sale price with a mid- or front-engined car, so I’m thinking it has to be
* Rare
* Water-cooled
* Rear-engined.

2. Use AI. I’m not an idiot, I know you need to use AI for everything now.

3. Kit it out with on-trend mods. I’ll need to keep the costs low here to maximise return so will probably get everything off eBay or Shein.

4. Do it quickly. Time is money gentlemen. I suspect my target market might have a lot of their money in tech company stocks so I need to get it done before the upcoming crash.

5. Make it lightweight. Everyone knows the lighter the car the higher the price tag.

It's only a matter of time before Singer start doing a '964 study' based on the 993.

I don’t like to get carried away but this car is definitely is going to be better than any Singer.

I’ve actually already got the base car. Here it proudly displays its water cooled heritage on the floor.

I’ve just been looking at Tuthill’s 911K as a general target. I don’t think my budget will allow me to get an engine like that so I’ll need to make it lighter if I want to compete.

I’m going to aim for 625kg.

How many wheels are you thinking?

Funnily enough I’m off to collect some wheels for it tomorrow morning. I’m getting 5, because that was the deal, but I definitely won’t fit them all.

New rear lights got delivered. I’m thinking since the McLaren F1 uses round bus lights and is worth £20m I’d copy that and get some round bus lights.

£23.19 the pair inc delivery.
Gonna need some fabrication to get them to fit the existing holes but I’ll worry about that later.

Luxury xclusiv manufaktur front lights are now ordered too.

I nearly got caught out on these. EBay initially serves you them up at £24.99 the pair but scroll down a bit and the same ones can be had for £17.99. Cheeky sausages.
At 5&3/4 inches I think they’ll be a bit smaller than the factory aperture but there will be a way round that I’m sure.

It’s funny because it’s true.

As you’ve probably gathered by now, I’m going for a retrofuturist look on my £200k+ restomod so will be changing the, frankly, old fashioned wheels for something else.

I’ve been eyeing Rotiform Aerodiscs like the ones on this concept, which seems to be named after Cornwall’s best-loved motoring journalist:
I can’t stretch to the real thing but I’m sure there are cheaper options out there.
