Hello,

I’m almost ready to check if my lights are all working. Little nervous with connecting the batteries.

I assume I can hook them up and just quickly check if there work ok?

Haven’t got the horn installed yet and neither the petrol tank.

Am I ok to do the checks or am I best to wait until the tank is in and ready to start.

Just remember the correct order to connect your battery up

Positive first then negative, removal is the reverse, Negative first then the positive.........reduces the risk of sparks

Easiest way to remember is positive lead is the only lead that should be on the battery on its own!

If you have a PowerProbe, then connect the earth lead to a battery and use the PowerProbe to provide 12V down the power line. Any issues and the PP will cut out.
If you don’t have one, then hook a fuse between the battery & the earth lead. Start small and build up - headlights are typically 55W each, so 10A in a 12V circuit.

If the fuses don’t blow and the smoke stays inside if the wires, then you’re OK to reconnect the batteries

Well it’s good news and bad news.

I hooked the batteries and got most working. Wipers, side lights , hazards and main lights.

BUT:
After disconnecting and toying with flasher to try and get indicators working I have no power at all.

It has an mobilizer fitted but doesn’t affect you turning lights wipers etc on. I have a red flashing light on the dash and that has stopped working?

I have checked are replaced all the fuses in the front and still nothing.

Kinda scratching my head?
No sign of burning or smell?

I have a yellow wire hanging near the light switch but that was hanging before I started?

Any ideas guys and sorry I’m posting so many questions

Just remembered one of the batteries is brand-new, but at least two years old?

I wonder if it’s completely flat

you might want to consider adding headlight relays . J West do a kit , but very easy to make your own for not a lot of money , I did it and was fairly simple. if you look at the website instructions very easy to work it out
will protect your headlight switch

One of my batteries was completely flat. Was on zero. Didn’t think to charge it as was purchased brand new 2 and half years ago. So hopefully the problem will go away. Minor gremlins to sort out. Bulb holder in front light housing needs adjustment. Indicator bulb won’t stay tight. And rear light needs better earth.

Don't let your lead acid batteries deep discharge. It does irreparable damage. Leave an intelligent charger connected to keep them healthy.

Okay, so one step forward three steps back
I’ve recently installed a new dashboard harness with LED bulbs. I have most of the dash lights working but when I put my lights on and I indicate left or right the high beam comes on and the lights on the dash go brighter. I’ve read numerous stuff online and it’s mentions I may have installed one of the bulb holders in the high beam ?

I don’t think the problem is on the switch or in the fuse boxes as I haven’t touched them apart from cleaning each connection one by one. Below is what I have working and what I don’t have working. does anyone have any idea what I’ve done wrong?

Hazards – working
Main beam and high beam working
Front side lights working
Wipers working
Sprayers working

Indicators not working, only with hazards and high comes on when indicating left right. – Becomes brighter.

Rear registration lights not working - do I need ignition to make these work, car is not running yet

If I remember rightly, the tachometer only had one bulb holder fitted, but I’m sure I have installed two as there was a hole vacant?

Can’t be much but trying to work it out before I move on to install the heater and petrol tank.
