I’m going to rebuild my mag case 915 again this winter with two goals: stop it leaking from everywhere and a new syncro on 4th.

My question is:

What’s current best practice for sealing a 915?

i.e
- what case sealing product?
- Product alone or with gaskets?

I’ve got a standard gasket kit on hand but want to do a very careful job this time compared to my ‘sling it back together in a hour’ version last time!

Good question, and if I were doing this task I would smear the same Loctite sealant used to seal the metal-to-metal engine case halves on assembly on the gaskets or the metal cases.

iirc Mike Bainbridge assembled the boxes 'dry' with gaskets only but these magnesium castings are possible not as true as when new? On the 3 box rebuilds he has done for me over the years there has never been a hint of sealant but I could be wrong Gary.
