East Oregon 800.2

Last weekend a few like minded souls thought it would be a good idea to drive out into the east oregon desert. 2.5 days, 850 miles, ski resorts, high desert, wild west ghost towns, snow and 90oF heat !!......Turned out to be a GREAT idea !

Electic mix on all levels, but cool cars, amazing roads and many many laughs. Everyone made it out...my 912 engine rebuild performed brilliantly in the heat and altitude changes, only issue for me was a leaking rear shock absorber. Others suffered a missing engine bolt and charging issues, but with some creative road side fixing it meant that everyone made it home again :

* For legal reasons had to miss out the Bourbon tasting in the local saloon, vague memories :)

Wake up and smell the hydrocarbons.....No one reported any sightings of the resident hotel ghosts ! (Might have been the Bourbon)

The road to Baker City...This was amazing ! Photos really don't give a sense of the openness or the colours and the roads are empty !

And then into Baker City, almost at the Idaho border. Another cool hotel and some cool street parking images

And then pack up and head home on the hottest day of the year so far

Image

Nothing to see here, just cleaning up the mess of a leaking shock absorber

Image

There was a more direct way home, but everyone agreed to take the scenic 8000 feet Blue Mountain pass !

Again, really can not capture the scale of it out there, I encourage anyone to come out and visit, I have some "spare" cars  ...I was with a few talented photographers who did a better job capturing, so may post some updates.

Huge thanks to Paul Gaudio (red beetle), for the route planning...I have mentioned Paul before, cool guy who used to race an emory 356, now races a Viper green SWB twinplug 911. Has a bunch of cool cars and bikes, will see if he will let me share images of his garage

Cheers !

What a great trip and fabulous pictures! When you say you were with some talented photographers, you are underselling yourself!

Good to see you keeping well.
