Good afternoon all.

My brake master cylinder is rather crusty as you'd expect for an original example.
I'm toying with the idea of buying the rebuild kit or just buying an after market replacement. The cost is roughly the same. Pros and cons please from your experience.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

If the new one comes from a reputable distributor, ie Design911 / Type911 etc then new imho.

Foe me it would be new every time, you can't tell what condition the bore is in and if one of the pipe connections is seized.....Invest in new imho.

FWIW, I’m happy to rebuild calipers but will only replace a master cylinder, never rebuild

Thank you chaps. My thinking is in line with your advice. The only thing I'm concerned about is the quality of an aftermarket replace over an original ATE. Likelihood of failure on a cheaper / cheaply made unit for example. A new ATE unit via Porsche carries a price tag that makes me feel a little queezy.
I look into the manufacturer of replacement cylinders and thanks again for your advice.

I replaced my are master for a new ate master from Autofarm in 1989.
Still in my 911 all through these years on to today.
Buy quality once.
