With my motorbikes, I've always used a manometer (a 4-channel Morgan Carbtune), yet when I built my Zetec powered Lotus Elan running Jenvey TBs, I used a syncrometer.





WIth my SC now running on TBS, I have to unbolt the trumpets (12 bolts in all) to fit the syncrometer in for balancing work. In an idle moment, I noticed that there are now digital manometers and a 6 channel version is available for about £200. This would be a very quick way of checking balance.





Any reasons why I should stay with the sycrometer. Any votes for using a digital tool all the time, or maybe quick checking with a digital guage and the syncrometer when it really matters. What say you all

Personally, the old skool synch meter. It measures the flow right on the draw of the trumpets but works only if it can seat fully on all ports. The tapers on the rubber seal may not be small enough for bike carbs etc?

Repeatability is the key factor in these things not necessarily accuracy. (IMHO)

Agree on the importance of repeatability Graham. I don’t really worry about what the reading is, just that it’s the same on every cylinder, every time as I go back and forth during my check.
