Leistritz 2 in 3 out silencer, just a passing thought

I have just put my long standing Leistritz 2 in 3 out silencer back onto my 3.2 engined '73T.

I wonder if anyone knows some history to the company and the design.

The part number is 901.011.09 / 04 86 and i cannot readily find a picture of a silencer same as mine.

I bought this silencer at an early Husboren Crawley Porsche autojumble, but no idea who from, might have been Autofarm.

I presume it was made in 1986, i bought it in 1990 and it is still going strong with just one part gas welded to save it.

Anyone know the history of Leistritz, Porsche 911 and maybe come competition influence?
I do recall seeing and hearing one of these silencer open pipe on a rally 911 back at Prescott hillclimb in the early 90's, never seen one since.

Just curious.

Graham - can you look again/more closely at the part no. stamping ?

I think you'll find the part no. is 901.111.011.09 which, from memory was a swb silencer - so check the date stamp again as well ...

Leistritz were OEM suppliers of exhausts to Volkswagen in the 1960s and 70s, if not before and after. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they supplied Porsche, too.

Andy:
The number stamped is as typed, no '111', but I'll try to check, I think the number is on the underside.

Yes, number as typed:
901.011.09 / 04 86

I think the number with '111' is the 2 in/1 out early car silencer (SWB?)

The two 'center' pipes are gas welded on (nicely) and the silencer has not been opened anywhere to modify it.

Cannot imagine this is a special diy modded system.

Sounds fabulous when fully open...

Apparently known as The Peashooter in the USA (of course). This one has the same part # as mine but later fabrication date stamped, again no '111' and here no side pipe.

With the center two pipes capped closed, the system is very mellow but not particularly 911 sounding.

I think Leistritz supplied exhausts for the 356 models & were one of 2 original manufacturers for 911 silencers (the other being Bischoff) ...
