Porsche confiscating and destroying the fake s will be interesting … but surely that another discussion about which car is the real one and who compensates the innocent owners

Sadly not a unique situation - many 'previously believed lost or scrapped' historic race cars have been 'discovered/restored' - Porsches included - & often go undetected for many years whilst they're in private collections.

It's been happening for many years but is more difficult only nowadays due to the internet.

The problems often only surface when the cars come onto the market & people start researching ...

Due diligence and research before purchase.
Hard on the Auction Houses too?

Wherever there are large monies to be made you will have this.

The real issue here is who has been accused of verifying the fakes! When Jürgen’s name first popped up when the original allegations were made, it was something of a shock (or not…). After all, he was the go-to source for verifying histories and provenance.

I note in the article, the pic of the Gulf 917s says "Le Mans originals above", yet the photo is taken at Spa .....................great journalism :)
