Esso Ceasing Ethanol-Free Fuel in Sep-23

Post by satan »

Hi,

Not sure if this is widely known yet:

https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/fuels#:~:t ... 0unleaded.

"We currently supply an ethanol-free Synergy Supreme+ 99 unleaded in some parts of the UK. From September 2023 our Synergy Supreme+ 99 will transition to contain up to a maximum of 5% ethanol at all Esso pumps irrespective of which part of the country they are located. The labelling at our pumps will remain as E5 for Synergy Supreme+ 99 unleaded."

That's a bummer - hadn't heard that - I use it in all of my 'old' cars ...

Inevitable really.
Any of those adaptive to remove or convert E5 to E0 work?

I've run my 73 911 on Shell for over 30 years on high octane Shell fuel, no probs.

My old 3.2 engine is not as sharp on e10 on the odd occasions, but I swear it will run on anything if pushed.

2 of my cars have high compression ratios (Giulietta Sprint is 11.2:1 & Elite IS !0.5:1) & I've definitely found that they start easier/run better on ethanol-free petrol - & the fuel doesn't degrade (or attack fuel hoses) like E5/E10.

It’s the fuel hose degradation which prompted me to use Esso at every opportunity.

I suppose it’s now a case of checking hoses even more frequently.

Yesterday I filled up with esso zero ethanol, 2.02 euro per litre.
There were 3 grades, top at 98 octane, next 95 octane graded e10 then another graded e15 which carried a suitability warning as e10 does in the UK.
Bit confusing.
I've run the 987.2 Boxster on E10 for at least 3 years or whatever it was before these E numbers.
Porsche approve these low grade fuels for the Boxsters.

Just filled the Boxster up, local garage, 98 octane @ 1.76 euro per lire.
Shell station further down the road was 12 cents more expensive.
Certainly easy to get a fuel choice here in Austria.
