Just in case the exhaust repair didn’t hold we did a short trip to the Ulm Porsche dealer to try and buy a clamp, but Germany doesn’t do parts & accessories on a Saturday :)

… , now all the boys were together , we could head through a beautiful part of Germany and into Austria. Nothing too exciting and traffic was busy due to the exceptional weather bringing everyone out , along with a Harley rider who decided no matter what , no cars were going to pass him… but after a great lunch we found some back roads and got the chance to experience some small passes as we got closer to Kaprun where our hotel for the night was .

The hotel was great and even though their restaurant was closed ( it’s sort of out of season in the ski resorts ) they had booked us all a table at a place athe far end of town.

There was a very specific reason we were staying in Kaprun… and that was the reason we were getting up at 5:30 am the next morning

Ever so slightly out of sequence…thanks to Postimage site being down for a couple of hours….this one was that first days line up….using the Panoramic phone approach….soon to become commonplace…as you will see why ..

Great stuff, really enjoying this.

"along with a Harley rider who decided no matter what , no cars were going to pass him"

we've had a lot of this in Austria, in the Frazer Nashes, after 2 of us overtook, 1 by one, the first 4 of a group of 8 bikes, they boxed us in and reduced the speed to 30 mph, then sped off, only for us to catch up again....selfish 'entitled' hand shandys. It is, apparently ok for bikes to hog the road, jump queues, ignore the white line rules etc, but if a car (especially a vintage one) tries it they think we're out of order....you may have guessed i'm not a biker, and i'd be intrigued to hear the other side of this point....

On the upside, whenever we're at the roadside, broken down, it's bikes who stop and help, friendly and interested and often really useful with local contacts....

Keep the updates coming. Have fun,W

Not sure of the mentality , but just as you say, I got passed him as did mark M, both of us passed him safely even though he was trying to make it difficult …. it was the rest of the group he blocked . Meant we had had a fantastic run down an amazing road , the others less so

…. I’m yet to post a story about tractors .. that’s still to come ;)

Day 3

Alarm went off for me at 5am ! We had arranged to meet and leave the hotel at exactly 5:30am ... the only sane reason possible for this was , the Grossglockner toll booths opened at 6am and we wanted a clear run up the mountian in the morning Sun with the aim of returning to the hotel for breakfast before heading back over teh mountian again as part of our days route. The drive there from Kaprun on empty roads was glorious in its self, but once we had bought our day tickets, along with some very keen cyclists ! we had a full clear run up the amazing Grossglockner Alpine Road. It is spectacular in all ways . The road is a nice mix and the views amazing. I'll let everyones photos do the talking .

5.30 am is just wrong…. There were a few fist pumps of ‘can’t believe I’m up right now, this better be good….’

It was.

It was truly amazing :) I didn’t quite make 05:30 but was only 10 minutes behind the others so met them on the way back down. We had talked of 05:30 but Jaegerbombs were part of some of the evening entertainment so I didn’t have much faith in seeing anyone!

It was a bit cloudy on the post breakfast run up, but great to do it again.

There was a Porsche event going on at a new restaurant up top, lots of lovely cars that had arrived on trailers and the we just ignored and sailed past exhausts blaring and emissions pumping :)
