Unfortunately Mike Bainbridge couldn’t make it as he had bad bout of covid so Gary Cook jumped in at the last minute!
There were 3 from UK.
Us, Sanjay and Gerald in their lovely low mileage RHD touring and Polly and Simon Webb in their super Canford restored car.
Cookie and I didn’t rush down, getting late ferry we stayed in Laon first night and then into Germany where we stayed at the Technik museum in Speyer. Well worth a visit with planes boats cars subs anything that moves really. We had the whole place to ourselves as it was 40degrees! Image

Thursday late afternoon was signing on briefing and meeting everyone.
A lot of them attended the 40th and we all said ‘ where the hell has the last 10 years gone?!’
Friday morning was the first drive split into 3 groups. We were aiming for Rothenburg 50/60 miles away.
Led by Wolf Hendrick Unger and Roland Kusmaul in his prototype 64RS we cracked on roads that were unbelievably empty, billiard table smooth and not a single pothole to be seen!Image

Great to see you've been putting the RS to plenty of use - in auspicious company too!

Beautiful place James!
I’d never been before. Lovely medieval fairy tale type buildings with plenty to see.
Anyway as much as I love nice buildings the temperature was the thick end of 40 degrees so we made the unanimous decision to clog it back to the hotel pool and have a swim and a beerImage.
I’ve had my share of leg pulling about having it over the years but I was happy the previous Swiss owner of my car ticked the air con extras box when he ordered it!Image
Friday night was a smart barbecue on the balcony at the Marwell.Image

Hi Mike
Its running like a top! Engine is lovely, and the rigidity of the body after Barry had it on his jig has made an amazing difference!

Just to finish this off.
The Saturday morning started off with another great cross country blast down to Stuttgart and the museum. Here we were parked out the front, then given a guided tour.
Great stories from Wolf Hendrick and Roland K. when they did Paris/Dakar in the 959. Image

The guide took us into the workshops at the museum which has got all the gear in there but is obviously not used much. He said ‘we have another special place where the restorations are carried out’ I said I think I might have been there before (DDK trip quite a few years ago)
He looked at me and laughed
‘ zat is very secret….ve vill haf to kill you now!’ I think he was joking!…

From the museum we checked in another hotel and late afternoon we drove to Weissach.
Here in one of the buildings there they have the FLB club which is for Porsche employees past and present to keep their cars. There is a huge workshop with ramps special tools and equipment that Porsche have given them.
Underneath they have a man cave to die for! Memorabilia ,comfy seating, kitchens and a bar. It’s open every day to work on your car and host functions.Image

We had a barbecue there that night and the cars were put inside and we were coached back to the hotel.
Next morning we were picking up cars and saying goodbyes.
Sanjay with Gerald agreed that we would aim to stay around Spa that evening , a nice easy blast on lorry free autobahns.
We stopped for a break after a couple of hours when we decided driving through Liege and Brussels on a Monday would be a PITA.
We decided to get to Aalst on the west side of Brussels but 280 miles away….
Right , nice steady cruise without going too mad….
That lasted all of 10 minutes!Image
Ah well!
A great trip. Hope I haven’t gone on too long!
