Hello everyone!
Hello everyone at DDK!
My name is Toshi and I live in London.
I have just imported a 1968 912 from Japan.
It took awhile to get here and also took months to register it at DVLA.
However, it’s now on the road and I’m enjoying every bit of the car!
There are so many things I’m learning as I spend more time with the car.
I have already learned so much through this forum so thank you to everyone who are contributing to this forum!
I'm looking forward to meeting and sharing the love for cars with other members!
Thanks!
Toshi

Re: Hello everyone!
Thanks everyone.
yoda: Yes, it took a while to figure it out but only manage it as attachments...
hot66: Plan is to drive it much as I can for now to get to know the car. I also have a long list of things that need attention, next thing is tyres and brake lines.
I have already got done engine tuning (runs 10x better!), spring plate bushes (no more creaking better ride), steering UJs (feels sharper) etc.

What was the process for (buying and) importing it from Japan? How did you find the car? What ads did you search?
Thanks
Rob
1970 911T, Signal orange (Restoration thread)
1988 3.2 Carrera backdate, Black
2001 996 Turbo, Lapis blue (am I allowed to put that here?)
I'm looking for a pre-impact bumper 911S or other high-revving 911 to restore - please let me know if you see one.

I didn’t buy the car as it was my father’s car.
He is too old to drive it now and offered it to me so I decided to take it on and bring it over here for me to enjoy.
I have used a Japanese importing company in London who organised most of the logistics this side and I used another company in Japan (whom they recommended) for exporting.
I've used roll on roll off, was a bit risky but a lot cheaper, and I have used it before sending old cars from here to Japan.
Most difficult part was getting the build date from Porsche GB and convincing DVLA to accept the unsigned certificate of build letter from Porsche (due to covid restrictions).

Re: Hello everyone!
Welcome Toshi - congrats on the car and getting pictures up (I failed abysmally and still am!)
I don't know what colour that is, but it's stunning.
Feeling somewhat nervous reading your post on the pain of the DVLA - mine should be arriving in about a month and the last time I imported one (11 years ago!) getting it registered took no time at all. However it turns out it will be fun

The colour is Sand Beige.
When I was doing mine there were only half of their staff working at DVLA office and they also had strikes.
If you have all the relevant documents i can’t see it taking too long.
Very exciting!!
Hope your registration process goes smoothly!

Re: Hello everyone!
The car looks great! Congratulations on eventually getting through the DVLA process - it has been a pain for the last two years, with understaffing, Covid shutdowns and then, as you say, strikes. Things are still far from normal, so it's great that you can finally enjoy the car. Sand Beige looks fantastic!

Hi Toshi,
I lived in Japan for 6 years. I bought my '72E in Hokkaido in 2006 and brought it back with me (via Hong Kong, stopped off there for 2 years!).
