It’s a little embarrassing as today was the day someone from this forum was coming to look at my 914 as part exchange for their ’12. Obviously sensing something was afoot it chose now to stick in reverse, (bless it…).
Anyway before I take it back to the place that “fixed” it, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
(Try not to be TOO derogatory about ‘14’s as I’m hoping he will still be interested in spite of reading this…)

Having had some serious problems with the linkage on mine I would start with the linkage and check it through.

I would try jacking the car up, and disconnect the front gearselector rod connector (pull the boot off the rear bulkhead, and undo the allen-headed pointy screw), leaving the rod attached to gear selector input mechanism.

Then you can grab hold of the gear-rod that connects to the gearbox, and pull it back/fowards/in/out: if it still won't shift, then you know its definately internal gearbox, if it does, then its gearlever adjustment. BTW, the allen headed screw will only go in one way, so you won't loose any adjustment here.
