Colour conundrum - opinions please..
This is a question about repainting a 1969 911T Coupe in its original Burgundy - or not?
We have a really nice base model 911T here that some may have seen for sale at the Swapmeet. Its got full history, matching numbers, complete and original throughout. Its needs what looks like minor bodywork and a full repaint. Then it must be sold.
With burgundy being a marmite colour would you repaint it to the original colour code or in a "retail" colour like red or green?
Given that everything else matches (but its a very basic T) would a more popular colour sell it more easily than sticking to the letter of the COA? The engine bay and luggage compt. were black from the factory on this model so it not a huge job to change the colour.
What would you do?

Burgundy all the way. Classy colour, not that common, stick with it.
Or black. I like them in black and you never see them

IMO Burgundy really suits an early 911 (or 912) - it's one of the best colours ...

Burgundy is lovely and would definitely be my personal choice.....but if you want a car to sell quickly to the ULEZ based hipster bearded buyer (i.e. given its not a highly collectible model but is a lovely driveable classic)....I would go with black or something else more en vogue, like Irish green and I would stick some spotlights, a luggage rack on it too with some tasteful grille badges on it, maybe some houndstooth inserts in the seats - they would literally be fighting their way past the pots of coconut beard balm for it

I was looking for a burgundy one before being tempted by tangerine, because it was right time and right price. The interior and trim though is equally important to me.

Re: Colour conundrum - opinions please..
fully stock rebuild .. then repaint in original makes sense and would be a nice car ..
BUT, i'm not a fan of that colour so would opt for period green ( was viper a 68 colour ? ) , mild lowering and a coll set of rocket style wheels

Find a buyer first and then allow them to pick?

Given that it's a basic 1969 2litre 911T, the only thing really going for it is its originality, so I would stick with burgundy.
Plus, it's one of the really good period colours.

Re: Colour conundrum - opinions please..
Stick to the original colour.
I know that I didn't stay original but I think that if I was painting a car today I would stay original - especially if it was a relatively stock car. If it was a full rebuild or a trick hot rod I might consider other colours.

Re: Colour conundrum - opinions please..
For me personally, having the colour I want, over-rules my need for originality.yoda wrote:Find a buyer first and then allow them to pick?
I love burgundy, but allowing the buyer to pick seems like a great idea.

Restored to original will always appeal for years to come, so I'm with the original colour too.
