Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0, 1976 Hot Rod/ Outlaw
All Porsches are special, some are just a little more special than others...If you are after a 911 a little bit different from the norm then this could be the car for you.
Very rare car with only 27 RHD versions built between 1976/77.
There is a folder of history with the vehicle, it’s first owner owner was a Mr Peter Agg, who built the early McLaren Race cars, so a bit of provenance and I should imagine she was pampered in her crucial formative years.
The bodywork, which was originally Ice Green Metallic but has now been resprayed in the popular Slate Grey, has had the usual issues attended to- kidney bowls, and more recently a rear screen out, respray where some minor issues around the rear seal were corrected. Engine and gearbox are in fine fettle (originally a ‘Sportomatic’ but now fitted with the 915 manual gearbox), she pulls through the gears keenly and is surprisingly quick for a 43 year old, plus the flat-six soundtrack (new 'Dansk' Sport silencer) is to die for! Only 97k miles on the clock and recently received a full service.
The door cards etc have been re-trimmed in Black Watch Tartan’ (which is original option to the car). Fitted with the relatively rare ‘high bolster’, black leather sports seats (which have suffered a little leather shrinkage), 917 wood gear knob, new carpets throughout, re-covered Targa top with new front and rear seals.
The 3.0 Carrera was the last of the 70's Carrera's lineage; preceded by the 1974-5 2.7 Carrera MFI and the legendary 73 RS Carrera. So had quite a reputation to uphold.
The Carrera 3.0 is fitted with a variation of the 930 Turbo's 2994 cc engine (minus the turbocharger) In addition, the lighter 6-bolt flywheel and the crankshaft from the 2.7 RS were installed. The engine (dubbed the 930/02) features K-Jetronic CIS. It develops 200 PS, 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and top speed of 148mph.
The 3.0 Carrera is an often overlooked supercar, in it's day it cost substantially more than a Ferrari 308 and was over a second faster 0-60 than a Lamborghini Countach.
It is the only car that Hans Mezger, the famed Porsche motor engineer, chose for his own personal transport and kept until his final breath- a testament indeed!
The 3.0 Carreras really are a thrill to drive, with 200bhp available at your right foot and weighing a mere 1,120kg it is perfect for spirited country road adventures; also with the added bonus of open air Targa motoring so one can receive the full effect of the flat six soundtrack- driving Nirvana!
Remove roof, start engine, rev, affix grin and- GO!
