I’m thinking of buying the BaT 356. Good move?

After years of owning many old 911s, I’ve been looking out for a good 356. I’ve been in touch with the owner of the 356 listed on BaT. I know little about 356, to be honest, and wondered if this looks to be a decent buy.

I know there were questions raised about the floor pan. If the pan and V brace were from a B or C, and the longitudinals replaced, is this a big deal. Anything else you see that I need to be concerned with? Appreciate any advice.

If it was me I would speak to Paul at PRS before jumping in.

He may know of one for sale in the UK which may be a better fit, worth a try.

I’m living in Toronto, so US is better for me. Thanks anyhow.

I seem to remember that you had a couple of 356's for sale a few years ago ...

Yes the descriptions given on two 356’s being sold in 2018 seem to indicate you know your way around them quite well?

I bought those two cars - didn’t actually see them or drive them. Got them shipped to the UK. So I can’t say I know much about 356. This car, should I buy it, would be mine and will be shipped to my home in Toronto.

Hence the polite request is anyone had any concerns with the BaT car.

My biggest concern for you is that the listing says it’s sold...

I think it's still available as it didn't meet the reserve price ...

Having looked at all the pictures and all the comments I think the car is OK . I think the price it failed to sell at is OK too . If you get it at close to that then you have a car you can use that someone else has paid to restore . Result.

The best way to check it out if you are not a 356 expert is to commission one to do a PPI ....personally I always go and do my own PPI , I am not an expert , my fridge magnet is my best friend !!

I'm probably not the only one to find the MO of the original poster a bit strange? Having bought and sold two 356s without seeing either, then setting yourself up to purchase a third (unseen of course!), but then asking on a forum if this sounds like a decent buy...

I’d say you’re over thinking it.

Thank you Sam and Oldtimer.

Kneeslider. Let me tell you my MO. Been a member of this forum for years. I’m not a dealer or trader. Just a fan of early Porsche, mainly 911, and mainly pre-73.

I found the two 356 and a 912 in the US, off market. Decided to buy them, and ship them to the UK. I did this purely to try and turn a small profit. A number of DDK Folks thought this was dreadful. I got slammed for it. Despite my years of membership and always being polite and friendly with my posts. I am simply asking for help with trying to buy myself a 356A. For me. Not for resale.

I stopped looking at DDK for the last 18 months because of the attitude of a few members. I got a load of private messages of support at the time.

My MO is simple. I am interested in any 356 experts who can offer me any advice on this 356. I don’t know enough about 356 to see if I’m making any big mistakes with this car. I’m good with early 911. But not 356.

I would recommend you have a thorough pre purchase inspection carried out by a specialist.
As for buying and selling cars for a profit. No harm in that.
It is what makes the world go round

I saw that one and thought it lovely. Other than the beige interior, but that's just me. Don't overthink it, if it is the model you want, and it's straight and not rusty, the right price for you. Forget dreams of profit. Buy it. Park it outside in the rain and drive it as your everyday smoker, always, until they throw salt on the road. Then put it away till spring, then rinse and repeat. It will start going rusty whatever you do, that is the only certainty. Drive and enjoy. Don't be precious about it. W
