No Mike, there was a Tuscan V8 in '67 with the 'ban the bomb' rear lights but when they brought out the Tuscan V6 in ~ '69 it had the Mk II Cortina rear lights ...

one-two wrote:Grantura is an interesting choice. The early ones look lovely. Finding one that hasn't been messed about won't be easy, though maybe that doesn't matter too much. Also consider Lotus 7 and Elan for the same "it feels as if we are going a bit faster than we actually are" mood. In the interests of full disclosure, I have a couple of the latter to sell!
Sorry to go off topic a bit. but that caught my eye. My interest in owning an Elan seems to be growing and growing!

Me too, as a big Gordon Murray fan it'd have to be an S3 or S4 coupe - when we're allowed out again I"ll start looking- only here once etc !

I think the Tuscan V8 was the fastest accelerating 'production' car that Motor & Autocar had tested at that time ...

This is torture! I so want mine back!!!!

Mike, I thought they made a few long wheelbase V8's which would have had the square rear lights. I might be wrong.

I also thought the vixen chassis had the V6/V8 engine mounts as standard - cheaper i guess to make one chassis for all models, and so it would be possible in theory to upgrade a 1600 vixen to a v6/v8 tuscan???

I have ordered the TVR book.....

That car is a bit of an 'anomaly' - the V8 Griffith was originally built in the US with the earlier Mk III bodywork & the model was known as the 'Griffith 200' followed later by the 'Griffith 400' which utilised the new 'Manx' tail bodywork.

TVR then produced their own RHD V8 model using the 'Manx' tail bodywork - & called it the 'Griffith 200' !!

Hi All
Just a quick update, no news on the car as yet, but thats hardly surprising the current 'lockdown'!
However 'TVR The Early Years' by Peter Pilby has turned up (good old Amazon) and I'm slowly making my way through it.
Not an easy task given it's strangely tiny faint print and Philby's even stranger way of writing!
It is however full of info and some great old photos but Andy I can see why you're not a Pilby fan...

Ian F.

PS. Lets hope that any Grantura still on the road has had a rebuild as it apears the folks building them didn't have a clue.

Admittedly not a Grantura but one of the fastest TVR's of that era was Brian Hough's Modsports V8 Tuscan - remember watching numerous 'battles' between him & John 'Plastic' Pearson's XK.

Sadly Brian Hough had huge accident in the car at Thruxton & was killed ...
