Schports exhaust question

The stock rear box on my wide body is looking exceedingly ratty and at MOT time about 6 weeks ago, the chaps at Cridfords did comment over a very small leakage where it was rusty, so, I'm thinking about a new piece of kit. The heat exchangers are both OK so it's only the rear box I need. Now I really don't want to start cutting any bodywork so would like to stick with the factory nearside rear outlet but I do fancy a slightly more sporty sound and I can't be concerned over any performance increase because my old beast is a bit of a dog anyway. So any recommendations please, I believe Dansk do a nice replacement but is it the stock sound or a bit louder. Love to hear from you.

Might be best dropping him an email as I think there are other options that aren't shown on the website.

This should be under what did you do to your Porsche today but as this little thread is running I'll continue here. So Messrs DHL dropped off two big parcels at my front door which was my exhausts ordered from those good guys at Design 911. I'd ordered a sports pre silencer and a Dansk sports rear box in painted steel. I rather fancied a stainless rear box but the only ones they offered had the dustbin sized tailpipe that I did not want. It's a 911 not a f$£king subarood. I got busy this afternoon and the first thing I noticed were that the existing silencer nuts and bolts looked like they had been under Brighton pier for a couple of decades. No way would they ever come undone even with galllons of WD40 and much wire brushing. I sliced them all off with the great help from my Bosch slicing disc and a small size air powered cut off wheel to get at the one right at the back. I wonder what they did without such workshop weaponry. Hacksaw the bolts you could get to and drill out the ones you couldn't. Tough work I'm sure. All the old hardware came off plus the pre silencer and I trial fitted the new box after clean up grinding off the existing exhaust flanges on the heat exchangers. Then I saw a problem. The front pipe of the pre silencer fouled the shock absorber - big time. What do I do? Send it back to Design 911 with a complaint. I'm not good at complaining, I'll try and sort things out. I'm fortunate in having oxy acetylene tackle so I get with the torch and after basically marking where it's meeting the shock I heat up the silencer and proceed to smash f@@k out of it. OK sufficient clearance has been obtained, bolt the shock back up, bolt the silencer up and it's all looking good now to hook up the new exhaust box. But that's a tomorrow job as Paul, Moxie, Lotie and jadey are scratching on the garage door saying hey dude it's 5.30 and us catz need grub. The exhaust box goes on tomorrow and I can't wait to hear the sound.

Friday morning and I trial fitted the rear box and I'm glad I did. The box came with a couple of bags each with straps which tie the box to the transfer pipe of the heat exchangers. On the old stuff that came off I noticed one strap was a whole lot longer than the other. However the new straps had only minor difference in total length and this was going to be a problem. Wrapping the straps round the box and pipe left a 10 cm gap between fixing ends, the other 'correct' size strap was only a gap of 5 cm or so which was workable. Even so I had to pull the ends of this strap together with a G cramp before I could get the securing bolt threaded on. With the other strap I was fortunate in having a section of 10mil threaded studding and with nuts on either end managed to pull up this short strap and get it better moulded to the box shape and pipe. I was also fortunate in finding some 10cm long 10 x 1.5 bolts in my hardware box which after a bit of a struggle managed to thread on and finally tighten holding the box in the correct position. So what really should have been a half hour job turned out to take most of the morning but the chromey tail pipe does look a whole lot better, and the sound is just great and when I can crank it up to 5 or 6 grand I'm sure it will be even better.

A little something possibly associated, I'm not sure, but when I fired up the engine to have a listen to my new exhaust box it wouldn't hold a tickover and I had to position the throttle pedal to get it to idle. Out with the Bentley manual to check out what might be amiss. Starting on the left and working across I pulled off the head temp sensor, engine speed sensor and reference sensor giving each one a blast with some isopropanol spray. Then did similar with the air flow sensor and what I thought might be the culprit the idle speed control valve connector. On re-connection I regained a good tickover only for the engine to die a few seconds later. I straightened the wiring leading to the idle valve control and everything was sweet and lovely once more with a nice tickover. So I found the problem and I think I shall have my local Porsche shop - Cridfords in Ewhurst fit on a new connector just so this does not re-occur. But it was good to have and then sort out a problem. I would like to take it out for a drive but it's chucking it down outside and I really don't like to get my baby wet, sad I know, very sad.
