Hello All

Pleasure to meet you and thank you for having me.

Earlier this week, I said goodbye to my 993 coupe to make way for a 912.

I loved the way the 993 looked but it wasn’t giving me what I needed for the couple of hours I would drive it every couple of weeks.

So I went off and drove SCs, 2.7s in pursuit of something more old school and rawer, only to stumble upon the 912 which is a car I had never ever considered.

The first car I drove wasn’t set up right and nearly put me off 912s for good, the second ran sweet as a nut but was tatty inside and out and felt a bit like a tin can.

The third was just right - nicely restored, and a real hoot to drive.

So I am absolutely sold on the 912.

The car I have purchased is a Cali ‘68 car, 5 dial, 4 speed... imported to the UK in 2014.

I live in London and look forward to meeting some of you on the Porsche circuit soon.

All the best

Nick

Welcome, it does look like a very nice 68. Lots of good people on here to give you a hand. Matt

Hello all! Just did my first 60 mile sprint in her.

Solex carbs seem to be quite tempremental - she’s now idling at 1500rpm when hot and power delivery is no where near as smooth as it was.

Did I go wrong by filling her with BP ultimate? :-o

She also takes a minute or so to start when hot. Turns over just fine but fails to ignite.

Do you think she’s in need of a tune up?

Your advice appreciated!

Nick

Hi Nick

Welcome to the forum

You have done no harm with the high octane fuel. Sound to me like you need a tune up, (valve clearance, timing, and carb balancing).

The trick to starting when warm is to put you foot on the accelerator flat to the floor.

Get yourself a copy of the orange book for all that technical stuff, it also contains the owners manual.

Regards

Sean

Thank you Sean. Very useful to know the trick for a hot start.

Anybody have any recommendations for a “tune up” expert in the South East?

Cheers

Nick

Out of interest, what is it about the older car that you prefer over and above the newer car? I’ve a ‘66 912 and sometimes think I might swap it for something more modern, like a 964 or 996. What ultimately puts me off the swap is that the 912 is a simple car, which is good, and I don’t actually drive cars all that quickly, so the measured pace of the 912 probably suits better than more modern performance.

Hello All,

Yes that is my car and I’m very sad to be selling so soon but needs must.

I hope that one day, when space and wife permits, I’ll be back!

On a side note, Greatworth Classics up in Banbury recently refurbed the Solex carbs - what a difference! Definitely recommend if yours are due a refresh or if you’re contemplating Webber’s.

Cheers

Nick

Good luck with your sale. Greatworth are good eggs.

I think you have the price wrong for a none matching car but I hope you prove me wrong!
