Happy Birthday Son

Post by Darren C »

A few of you may know that it was my Son's 21st Birthday on Sunday.
Over the last 6 months I've bought & restored in SECRET his dream car, a 1966 Ford Mustang!
With the help of the guys at Dowsetts Classic Cars (Ant Anstead's garage & the team who brought you the TV "For The Love of Cars" series - me included) we've done a full bare metal, made new repair panels, painted, re-trimmed & re-wired the car, with the obvious essential mechanicals. 8)
On Sunday morning we took the train (he was still no wiser) to Dowsetts & I presented him with his 21st Birthday Present.

At least I'll get the lawn mowed & the bins emptied for this week
And as a friend reminded me; I'm investing in my future, as he'll be the one choosing my nursing home

You can check out the Restoration on my twitter feed or via Dowsetts, Twitter, Facebook & Instagram :)

Very Cool. He seems speechless. Unfortunately over here you won’t insure anything over ten years old until you’re over 25.

Thanks for the kind comments Guys :)

Neil, I'd be VERY worried about your nursing home!

Anyways

We did all this in 3 Months!

You can see more on the Dowsetts Facebook Page including some video of painting the car!

https://en-gb.facebook.com/dowsettsclassiccars/

Quick over view:

Starting the Bare Metal to remove Burgundy paint over Blue paint, back to Original Red Paint then Steel.

Then strip panels off down to shell to remove paint on inner wings & under arches.

Discovering extent of arch rot under buckets of filler!

Cutting Out & Making new panels

Interior re-trim with new Dash & Seat Covers, including new steel dash panel welded in & painted to original radio fitting (Butchered out for a modern radio by previous owner)

Full repaint to original colour Signal Flare Red with painted in 10” stripes Flatted & lacquered into the paintwork

Gorgeous, especially those new rims. Not your average 16 yr olds' stanced Polo wet dream by a long way...
