PCGB - Goodwood 'KG' Event - Aug 17th 2019

Post by alfietom »

I had an 'Invitation' yesterday to attend a new event replacing Classics at the Castle.
Although i've never attended Classics at the Castle' I believe the format is similar just with a new venue and some great themed events.
The weekend starts on Friday evening with an evening with Rod Emory (356 Hot Rod Specialist)
On the Saturday there is a Track day and Paddock meeting then an evening BBQ at the Goodwood Kennels.

Its being organised by the same team who organise Classics at the Castle and from what I understand the event is to celebrate everything 'KG' Porsche from 1948 - 1973
Only Production and Competition Stuttgart built Porsche model types are eligible to take part in the events. (I presume these are the Track Day, Paddock Display)
Sounds like a great day out...I've booked and will be treating Mrs P to a night at the Goodwood Hotel then a steady drive home on the Sunday

Sarah & I are now booked including the track time. Not doing the Friday even thing in Portsmouth.
The £410 for the Goodwood hotel went on the track time instead
We're staying is a cheaper hotel down the road.

Yes, had an invite too, but won't be going unfortunately.
It's simply too far for me to travel and would mean at least one overnight, which I can't do at that time of year as I will be very busy anyway.

Think the invites have only gone out to pcgb members ? Assume you need to be a member to apply for tickets ?

I've got a couple of friends going , but it is a long way from up here

Just been speaking to Chris Pruden at PCGB and he's asked me to spread the word to DDK folk. The event is free and open to anyone, not just PCGB members, but display parking is only for 'KG' cars (which strictly speaking means up to 1972, but effectively pre-impact bumper cars). It seems the track element is open to all, too, but you need to pre book as numbers are limited. Jurgen Barth will be circulating in an RSK, to add some spice to the occasion.

It reflects the status of the company Jason:

In 1972, the company's legal form was changed from Kommanditgesellschaft (KG), or limited partnership, to Aktiengesellschaft (AG), or public limited company, because Ferry Porsche came to believe the scale of the company outgrew a "family operation" ...

I received 2 invites for this event.
First for the 911, ages ago.
Then about 2 months passed, and they sent an invite for the 914. (Which was built in early 74, and therefore not a KG car?)
I assumed this meant the event was undersubscribed.

Shame, I'd like to go, especially for the track day aspect, but alas looks like I'll be travelling.

I look forward to some ace pics and in car vids form the Ddk massive!

You can tell if you have a KG car. It’s on your fan housing strap and your aluminium VIN tag. If you have AG then you are barred  To complicate matters, around the changeover date for tags which lagged a little behind the completion of the company change, some cars had a mixture of KG and AG tags. You might be allowed in with one of those.

Mike

I don't think this event is as exclusive as some responses appear imply.
I'm going for a start so that means anyone can come. :headbang:
I've paid for the track time so don't think that us free as Keith suggests but when I paid for tickets PCGB they seemed very keen on getting a wide variety of KG period vehicles there, even 914s !
Plan to go in the RSR (if it is working :?: )
Hope to see some of you there :?: :?: :?:

Just spoken to Chris Pruden at PCGB - the track day is open to anyone regardless of whether they are a member or not. Just call the club office to book. 01608 652911
