Hi after working on a 356B t6 for six years I have forgotten where the vin plate goes, cannot see the holes to pop rivet it back on to body, I remember it was in an unusual place near side/back of the petrol tank. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?.
Thanks Dave k

Hi Andy, thanks for reply, unfortunately my petrol tank is a different shape (ie rectangular) so it’s not the same as your car

My RHD T6 has the vin plate on the triangular piece above the handbrake, along with a “MADE IN GERMANY” plate.
Both are in front of the fresh air intake rubber, lengthways down the car and visible by peering down the drivers side of the petrol tank.
They are secured by domed head aluminium rivets, (NOT hollow pop rivets, self tappers or nuts and bolts!)
Essentially the same as earlier cars.

Hi Dave, if you've got the earlier square tank the chassis plate should be on the left (as you're facing the front of the car) between the tank and the sidewall. Tucked in almost as far back as the hinge. With the tank in place it is really quite out of sight.
If you need a photo let me know and I will take one for you.

Thanks to all who have given advise, it’s put me on track to nail this problem once and for all.

A RHD T6 uses the earlier fuel tank (apart from the very last of the 'C's the VIN plate is located sidewats in the small gap between the inner wing and the left hand side of the fuel tank, I've tried to attach a pic of my car before it was restored - you can also see the "made in Germany' badge which is black behind the cable
