but what do you mean by refurbish? Are there issues with the shafts? Have a look on Bruce's site is describes the process and types http://sparkingplugs.com/5.html Bruce rebuilt my dizzy and I can highly recommend him.

He did an excellent refurb on my 1959 Lancia Solex carb.

What Solex carbs are you looking for?

I have a pair of very nice refurbished (original) Solex carbs laying around that I would consider to sell for a 'Friend of DDK' price...

Thanks for the replies, main issue is inconsistent idling, i know the linkage arms are worn and the carbs seem to be original to the engine so thought a refurb may solve the issues.

Black betty - i will take a look at the cards and get part number but I've assumed they are the original carbs from 1968.

Have you considered the quote that 90% of carb problems are really ignition problems. I did quick search of your posts but couldn't find anything saying if you had tuned the car. I would be tempted to do a full service valves, dwell, timing, fuel filter, pipes and balance the carbs. If you still aren't happy then clean out the idle jets and float camber before sending away? I have webers on my car and the idle was greatly improved by balancing the carbs.

Not a surprise he almost never comes back to you or ever replies to emails.......

Thanks Neil, I did have the engine serviced and set up with a new distributor a couple of years ago by PRS. maybe time for another service and check the carbs. engine is not tuned as far as I'm aware although was rebuilt (previous owner) a number of years ago by a specialist in Hertfordshire (have the invoices). Think it was Barry Curtis in Abbotts Langly

I would be happy to show you have to service/tune see viewtopic.php?f=16&t=60908

The only downside is that the valves need to be checked on a cold engine.

PS If you have a Barry Curtis engine then that is a valuable item to have in your car.

Yes I can highly recommend www.356carburetorrescue.com in Arizona, I guess you will not be driving there but I had a set done this time last year after spending months of fiddling to get them set up, they came back like new. The cost in on their site best viewed sitting down!!!

They also have lots of interesting info on the carbs, to help set them up.

I’ve just bought the overhaul kits and done my own, but butterflies and spindle wear was minimal. If it wasn’t I have a friend in an engineering shop locally who’s done my SUs, so I’d get him to do the Solexes.

The rest is simple except setting accelerator pumps, but I expect when I get to them, I’ll sort it.

The main thing is to make sure everywhere is spotlessly clean, that there’s a good modern filter in the supply line, that float height is correct and air jetc are set where manufacturers say. Usually you’re 95% of the way with all that done.
