Which burgundy red have we got

Hey all,

I'm helping a pal do some minor tidying jobs on his 1983 SC and we are looking for a colour code to get some paint for underside tidy.

The car has been repainted but the numpties didn't put the paint code plate back on.

So I think it's either Ruby Red (Rubinrot) or Wine Red (Weinrot). Very difficult to choose between them though...here is 'our' car:

and a whole lot more here:

I'm erring towards Rubinrot but when my local carparts place made some up (code 810 metallic) it was way too 'coppery'. It may be that they have just got it wrong but their system did produce a very very good match for my silver SC and apparently silver is hard to get right.

I will go to a proper auto paints place in Belfast where they have a 'magic eye' which will read the paint colour and produce a closest equivalent. Just wondered if anyone here has a view? No joy over on Impact Bumpers...

Cheers,

Al.

Your granny may already be an excellent egg sucker, but just in case: It will have the paint code in the sticker in the front of the service book if you have that.

I don't have any books nearby, but I think Wine was and early SC colour and Ruby was late, changing to Garnet for the 3.2. So I reckon an 83 will be Ruby.

Assuming the numpties painted in the right colour, of course.

If you're doing a repair rather than full repaint best bet is to forget colour names and to take the fuel flap to your local paint shop and just get it matched.
