South West DDK meet/drive out?

Post by jeremyg »

We want to see if any more South West DDK members are interested in meeting up. So far KS, 65deluxe, jwhillracer, Graham and myselfvhave expressed interest. Any more out there?
If you're interested, post here or PM me, and perhaps we can then make some plans most easily through email.

Any car is fine - it's the attitude that counts! And Graham good to hear Adrian is also interested. Any more to join us?

I might be able to persuade a couple more of the guys, though they might be in more modern machinery, I have got a 356 SC lined up hopefully and I could speak to a friend who has a '56A that might be interested in coming along.

I'm going to suggest a few possibilities. There are 3 events that we could drive to/meet at in the summer. John has already suggested one on August 14th which focuses around Wiscombe Hill climb. Personally I can't make that one, but no reason why everyone else can't go ahead and meet up.

Before that on Sunday July 17th is what's now called The Heritage Insurance Classics at the Castle show, in Sherborne, which is a good event IMHO. Entries are now open and I'm already booked in with my 356. Obviously you can just rock up as a visitor though at any time.

The other one is the Crashbox Club's Historic Vehicle gathering at Powderham Castle on July 9th and 10th. Again you can exhibit or just visit and enjoy.

The last one might be the best for a starter meet as it's pretty informal. The date for it actually hasn't been set yet but it's the Thornfalcon Classics meet ( not far off the M5 at Taunton). The last one was held on Aug 23rd. As you can drift in anytime, it might lend itself to say a breakfast meet up at the Castle Hotel in Taunton for those that fancy it, and maybe a drive out after a visit to the show for those that want to make a day of it.

I'll pm you all anyway, but you can google them and then post some reactions here, and of course any other suggestions would be good. Let's make something happen.

Sherborne is pretty close. However, i'm pretty easy and would just fancy a long drive, pub lunch and chat.

I'd be kean to stretch the 914-6's legs over summer as not much in the diary between International in May and 914 Heb Hob in September.

Of the dates mentioned, I can't do Powderham Castle as that's the same weekend as Le Mans Classic. The other dates look free at present, although I have to say July is busy for me (CLM and then back to Le Mans three weeks later for a VW meeting).

August meet (probably the 21st, as that's a Sunday) at Taunton way probably favourite. I'll probably go to Wiscombe the weekend before anyway, but not much opportunity to park cars close to the action.

Well bizarrely Keith they appear now on the Thornfalcon website to be saying it will be on Sunday 18th September, the week after the Revival.

They actually advise that if you want to park up as a group, you should go in as a group and you'll get parked as one.
I can do that day, can the rest of you? The only thing it clashes with I think are the Angouleme circuit races!

With that event in the diary, maybe we can also meet up for a pub lunch somewhere earlier in the year? Dorset coast somewhere? Who knows a good place?

I'd be interested in a SW meet. I'm not sure what dates I can do but I'll keep an eye on this thread (please add me to the list).
