Just had my front calipers refurbished by Classicar Automotive and thought I'd share the results with you.

Dropped them off on Tuesday like this:



Collected them Thursday like this:



Considering the bright zinc plating & new pistons as well replacement of the usual seals, I don't think £58 + VAT (each) is too bad.

And I don't have binding calipers nor early offside lockup either now .

They look good
What's next ? Get the suspension set and get it on a track ?

Not too much to do now really:

Fit rear windscreen seal
Suspension bushings and alignment
Fit anti-roll bars (collecting at Beaulieu)
Renew oil pipes
Engine rebuild
Gearbox rebuild
Rear bulkhead and seat base repairs
Strip and respray
Refurbish alloys
Tidy interior



However it remains a rolling restoration, so that lot adds up to a few years worth. For now it's drive and enjoy over summer before more serious work (and expense) commences.

Anybody work in a bank that would like to spend a few million with me this year?

Terrific result on the calipers: don't think I'd do mine again, seeing those . How do they do it for the money?

Crikes Ian.... don't do all that before thrashing it round a track, you'd to too scared about doing it some damage !!

What a fantastic advert. I'm going to get mine done, and spring for new hoses and master cylinder too (just to be on the safe side).

Who does the negotiations for club discounts because Classicar Automotive should get a fair bit of business from this club???

They'd got loads of trade stuff in when I went, so it must be worth giving them a call... No harm in asking.

I tried ringing them 3 times this afternoon but they were engaged each time. Hopefully I'll courier my calipers to them tomorrow.

Easily the best solution

Next Dilemma - I took the pads and hard lines off the calipers last night. The pads have about 8mm of wear left and I believe the minimum is 1.5mm. What should I do, replace the pads or leave them. I don't know how old or what type they are. Bearing in mind I'm having the calipers re-done, new braided hoses and a new master cylinder should I just go the whole hog?

Yes - buy new pads as well.

Andy's absolutely right but my pads were still very good so I just stuck them back in (having made a careful note of which position they were in during removal).
