What colour green is my 911?

Post by alanjf »

Hi All,

My 911 is currently having the bonnet repaired but the workshop cannot identify the colour. It is not Irish Green from the 60's. It may well be a colour chosen by the owner during a rebuild in the US or something they had in stock. Irish Green is a shade too dark. Any other thoughts from the photo below?

Thanks, Alan

Looks like a slightly off Irish Green to me but computer screens can distort.

69MY E or S or a T with S options built late 68?
In that year Irish green, signal green, bush green, dark green metallic, turkey green, olive, were the greens. No idea what bush or turkey is like but pretty sure it's none of the others.

Regards
Mike

Hi Mike, mine is a 911E built in 1968. I have been informed by the previous owner that the code is 6806, but that is too dark. Alan

Your paint tag will confirm (if it's original) the code and hence what the colour 'should' be. It also will tell you the paint type used and where the car was painted originally. What does it say?

Regards
Mike

Isn't Bush Green the literal translation of Buschgrün, more commonly known as Leaf Green?

Alan: your car is not Buschgrün, so you can strike that from your list.

Seems highly likely and if true then I learned something new today!

Take your fuel flap to your local auto paint supplier - a lot of them have technology to 'photograph' the colour and match it - I know my local supplier does it.

Definitely lighter than my Irish Green, but what an amazingly cool colour. I think I will call it Irish Moss. Beautiful

Look on the 912 register. There is a list of 1968 colours and numbers registered. At the bottom of the list there's a special order green with only 1 registered in that colour. Looks very similar to your s. See the thread about the mcmillan appeal for the link

Hi All,

Thanks for the advice to date. In the end the fuel filler had to go to be analysed and the closest colour found from the ICI range. Considering there are about 6 different shades of green on my car I had to accept the closest match. Mark at County Coachworks did a great job, and discovered how much filler had been used previously. Much less now the job has been done properly. Regards, Alan

Hi Alan
Did County organise the paint analysis? I'm having similar trouble with mine (the "yellow" one next to yours in the fairmile pic). Sent a torsion bar cover to paints4u but they couldnt get a match so I need to try elsewhere.
Best
