So I'm getting through my jobs one at a time. And it's windy-uppy window time. They won't. Wind up or down that is, the glass does go up and down but there seems to be too much movement from front to back and they don't slide straight up and down.

Is this likely to be the guide runners (felts??) worn out and needing changing ?? Everything else seems to work okay so it's all I can hazard a guess at.

Porsche want me to sell a kidney to buy all 6 pieces (3 each side) so best to check first !!!!

Sounds like they are not on the runner properly at the base first of all, especially if going up at an angle. If they are out of alignment, and not going up straight they will stick in the frame.

A temporary fix can be to apply powdered graphite to the runners/felts, the type that you might use to lubricate locks. With the glass running up and down a bit more easily you can hopefully pin down where the fault actually lies.

From memory. There is also a bolt that adjusts the angle of the glass on one of the parallel arms of the regulator by the window channel. If that is lose or not adjusted correctly the the window will rock in the channels.

Thanks guys, thats really helpful, I've ordered (and received) the new felts from Porsche as the ones in the car were really knackered, so can only help the situation and when I have the glass and frame out, might be easier to see the problem with the scissors.

So much cheaper. Make sure you tighten up frame bolts on the door is the set sequence or the windows don't roll well ( it's in the manual ) spray silicone spray in the felts

Bit late to notice but worth remembering that window channel felt is available by the metre from Woolies etc, I've used it with success on my 911 which admittedly doesn't have windows that wind but the channel is the same as is the poly thickness. My Lotus, TVR , Baja Bug and Capri all got new with no issues fitting or operation.

Thanks guys. It's all a bit clearer now I've taken the window and frame and regulator out of the door. I don't think its the delta at all. It seems to be the bushings at the base of the window that slot into the window regulator. It seems that they are unavailable. Anyone got any ideas ???

Just got my new Tuck; its so fast I kept sliding off through the bottom turns had to re-educate myself to use one hand on the rail, nice board.

I could make you the bushings in black nylon if you have an old one or two for patterns?

Thank you all so much for the great advice. Basically pulled everything apart, cleaned it all up, white grease on the moving parts and silicone on the felts and it's perfect. The correct sequence of tightening bolts up is critical.

Changed all the scanky old mismatched bolts for a stainless set of loveliness. The blocks at the bottom all needed pulling out and cleaning up with cellulose thinners and new white grease they are flawless. Up and down easy peasy !!! Oh and the quarter window that never worked ? Just one bolt that needed replacing and to be done up tight !

It's odd to think that a simple Frame much like any other car in it's day would need to be tightened in a set way.. It's like it's under tension in some way. I bet it doesn't matter in some thing like an MG

Anyway if you ever feel the window is not closing very well and it's almost forcing the handle check your frame has not broken.. I had this on one.. when i bought the car the scissor frame that lifted the window had broke.. it was the twin thin bit of metal that was where the nylon bushes ran inside looks like this -> ===== that shape and one side had broke. So I welded it back up and smoothed it's shape it worked, but 8 years later it's gone again.. 2 hr fix but still might have to look out for a new scissor lift Frame.
