I am restoring a pair of Solid shaft Solex 40PII-4 carbs to swap out with the ones on my car.

I wondered if anyone had a test to gauge if the outer throttle plate shaft bushings are worn or not.
The reason I ask is that the carbs are fitted with bushings that are 16mm long, and the ones in the rebuild kits I have seem to be only 8mm long and don't look to me to be any tighter fit than the ones already fitted.
I don't want to go to a lot of trouble only to find the bushings were fine.

I have bought new throttle shafts ready to fit in.

Anyone got any suggestions or previous experience with this?

Yes I have already spoke to Candace there who was very helpful in describing and pricing their services.

But I have decided that its not really viable to send my carbs back to them for a restoration.

I think a pair of refurbished cores was over £500 and that was before taking into account taxes etc.
So I'm trying to get my cores refurbished. I have a quote for the rebore of the throats at a local machine shop, just need to know whether my shaft bushes need redoing and what the best way is.

Really need to know what play is allowed and how to test for it and then if I need new bushes which is the preferred way to go.
