DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Can anyone help me out, I'm looking for a nice 912 but I've not had the privilege of driving one yet. This might sound a bit dumb, but I have had a few years behind the wheel of 60's beetle so I kind of know what I'm in for. Any advice or maybe even a little blast in one would be a massive help.

Well Alan Cranford had a very nice one for sale, which I believe is sold, but maybe he can help. I'm pretty sure he is in Dorest. Max at Revival Car, advertises on here, is a 912 specialist. Give him a call he is most likely to know of what is achievable.

There are some nice cars in the states so you can also keen your eye on the 912 bbs forum. Not just the classifies but where people post about cars available on craiglist, ebay etc.

Does Phil aka 912uk still frequent the site?

I thought that Mark, from Southampton, was 912uk and I don't think he is here much but on 912 registry uk

Mark doesn't seem to be as involved in 912's as much these days as he once was but he does pop in here occassionally and more often on 912 register, might be worth a pm on the 912 registry, he's a helpful chap.

I spent 12 years in a daily driven 67 beetle before swapping to a 912 and all I can say is that 912's feel surprisingly advanced compared to an early bug. The brakes, suspension and whole driving feel of a 912 is far superior to a beetle, I took my uncle out for a drive in mine shortly after purchasing it and he couldn't believe it was a car from the 60's. There is still plenty of driver feedback though, a lovely growl from the back end lets you know you are still in an early air cooled and the light but accurate steering is a joy to operate. The most noticeable thing however was probably the suspension, even on a lowered 912 it still seems to soak up the bumps and lumps effortlessy when compared to a beetle (at least compared to mine which was down about 4" at the front and one spline at the rear) My back never felt so good!

To get pics to display you have to host the picture on a site such as photobucket, then copy the url across and put IMG tags either side of it.
