Hi all

My USA 1966 912 has a strange indicator issue I was wondering if anyone here has had the same? Both sides blink at regular intervals if headlights and brake lights are not on, however if I apply the brake (so brake light on) the blink rate drops to about half the previous rate. If the headlights are also on when braking the indictors don't blink at all! Kind of worrying approaching a roundabout in the dark!

I'm assuming it's loading issue, probably due to old wiring, but if anyone has any remedy suggestions (in layman's /non-electricians speak) I'd be very grateful to hear.

Hi Ben

You probably have a bad earth in the circuit causing the issue. Clean all of the earth terminals, (solid brown wires), on all terminals and also the body earths. The only common thing between the circuits you have issues with is the earths. A brass wire brush and some proper electrical cleaner not wd40 is essential.

There is a wiring diagram on the web somewhere, (Google it).

Where are you located as there may be someone to help. If you in Essex I may volunteer!

Actually you should use one of the carbon pen to clean the contacts

You could use one of those pens. But you will go through quite a lot of pens trying to remove overspray, dirt, oil, or anything else. They are usually for cleaning oxidised copper and carbon deposits off of pcbs and the like. Also good for removing carbon from commutators.

I had a go a trying to clean the earth terminals this week, but realised I had no idea what i was doing or were to look. I am I looking for any terminal in particular? Where are they typically located?

I also wanted to have a look at how I can improve the high beam brightness of my sealed beam head lights. The PO in California told me he put a relay in, but only on the dipped beam, as they rarely use full beam over there he says. So consequently my dipped beam actually gives move light than full beam! Could I just swap the reply over to activate the full beam circuit instead? Here's a photo of the fuse tray. I've no idea what I'm doing but happy to have a go if someone can point me in the right direction!
